It has been a documented fact that Joshua and swimming have never really gelled in the past.
With his lacking after confidence and his inability to have even a drop of water on his face getting his 5 meters badge in his swimming lessons was a massive turning point for him in October.
However, having ticked off everything on the list that is needed to move up to the next swimming group except swimming on his back and putting his face in the water it has been a long 5 months of weekly lessons to finally get him confident to do both.
Thankfully about 3 weeks before our recent holiday to Italy he finally did it and moved up groups so I finally got to see him in swimming action while away and I was very very impressed.
Joshua’s love hate relationship has been a long one so it was so lovely to see him finally start relaxing in the water … although while swimming he does screw his face up still but at least it ends with a smile.
For me getting Joshua to learn to swim confidently was something I was really insistent on from him being a little boy. Swimming to me is a lifeskill and one that all children should learn. After all it can save a life.
I just hope Jacob settles into loving water much sooner than its taken Joshua as I would love to see them both playing confidently in the water. If seeing him in action on holiday is anything to go by I am hopeful that I will end up with two water babies eventually.
So here’s to a new stage of swimming the Joshua and hopefully a new swimming badge soon too. On holiday he smashed being able to swim on his front over 10 meters so now its practice time for swimming on his back.
