The swimming journey has been one of mixed emotions for Joshua.
When he first started to learn to swim he loved it.
Then it became hard work and his attention span dwindled and the little people who just joined over took him and we thought there was no bringing him back.
We thought he would remain unfocused and frustrated, until a couple of weeks ago.
Ollie took Joshua to his swimming lessons on a Tuesday and while I was busy at home sorting Jacobs tea I received the best text message ever!
One that said my little fella has finally passed his 5 meters swimming badge. Don’t get me wrong I say finally, when in fact this was his very first attempt which after his mood over swimming in previous weeks is nothing short of a miracle.
When he came home with his badge and certificate I have never seen a happier boy than I did that night.
I know he has a long way yet to go with his confidence, but to be awarded his first ever swimming badge really was more motivating than anything else.
Since getting his 5 meters badge he has now completed 90% of the things on the check list that he needs to do before eventually moving up to the next swimming group and I am so proud that he has made it this far if I am honest.
He hates water in his face and is so unconfident in water that these may seem like small achievements to people whose children love the water but for our little guy this is massive.
I would love to see him move up before Christmas as I really think this will motivate him to keep trying, some things come naturally to some kids and swimming is not something neutral for Joshua although I am so proud of his perseverance and determination even on his off weeks.
Learning this life skill has been a ver rocky journey but its important that he learns and here’s hoping there is a 10 meters appearing in the not too distant future.
