Last school year Joshua seemed to come home daily and tell me that so and so had lost a tooth. According to Joshua his classmates and friends were being given small fortunes in gifts from the tooth fairy.
Meanwhile I was thrilled at the fact he still hadn’t got even an inkling of a wobble in any tooth.
This summer holidays however I heard the dreaded phrase “my tooth is wobbly” and it was followed up with weeks and weeks of moaning and pulling and cringing and even crying.
That is until last week.
While eating his pudding Joshua started the wobbly tooth dance.
The one that involved lots of jumping around, crying and carrying on.
It was time to take action.
After finally getting him to open his mouth and show me it seemed his one wobbly bottom tooth was hanging just on one thread, backwards and behind the other teeth. Joshua refused to let me pull it so I persuaded him he needed to let me wobble it instead.
I have to admit I maybe placed in the bad parent category now but I couldn’t bear it and took it upon myself to stop the pain for everyone and gave it a tug.
Joshua’s face was a picture … between a look of shock, excitement and anxiousness he began to cry with both relief and shock.
He then proceeded to give me a round of high fives and tell me all about what he was going to spend on his tooth fairy payment.
Although I did have to bring him back to reality that our tooth fairy does not offer out £5 notes for teeth!
That night he headed to bed with his tooth in a tub and a smile that would give the Cheshire cat a run for its money. I thought it would take forever for him to nod off.
Ollie crept in and made the exchange and left behind a shiny £1 coin.
The following morning I was woken by a beaming smile at just after 6am. Joshua had found his is coin and was totally thrilled that the tooth fairy had been to visit.
He then spent an hour telling me what he would buy with his precious coin … although I am sure a kinder egg wasn’t really on the tooth fairy’s list it was on Joshua’s and that’s all that mattered to him.
He went later that day with his Daddy to buy his precious egg and came back with it in hand.
After all this drama I had hoped for a quiet few weeks … but it seems the first wobbly tooth told the rest they had to start moving too as he has discovered another 2!
Lets hope they wait awhile before they dropping out.
