Recently I was tagged in a bloggers meme by the lovely Kate from Family Fever in which she has asked me a series of Mummy related questions, so here goes …..
1. Are you a Stay at Home Mum, or a Working Mum?
I am a mixture of both, I left the world of office based work when I took voluntary redundancy while pregnant with Joshua and remained as a non working stay at home Mum.
This changed after I began blogging and I now have a regular freelance post over on the travelodge site (this weeks post is about Britmums Live Bloggers Conference) and I am self-employed and write from home.
2. Would you have it any other way?
No, this has by far been one of the best stages of my life as I don’t feel compromised. While working externally of the home I always felt that the work life balance was way off and felt an overwhelming guilt at me not being at home full time. So although the balance at times has been a little one sided while working from home I now have the opportunity to rectify that myself.
3. Do you co-sleep?
No, I am not a fan – I am not a good sleeper anyway and switch from not being able to sleep at all to comatose, so co-sleeping would not be great for me and also would not be the safest option.
In all fairness now Joshua is a toddler he does get into bed with me in a morning to squeeze in a programme or two from Milkshake before we have to get up. Ollie is normally at work so its some mummy and son time.
4. What is your one must-have item for your baby?
My must haves have changed with each stage of Joshua and Bethany’s development. But with both I would not of been without baby wipes! I even clean my sofa with them!
5. How many kids do you plan on having?
We currently have my daughter Beth who is nearly 13 and our son Joshua who will be 3 in April but if we are really lucky later on this year there maybe news of a bun in the oven. Although we are not going to stress about it right now as we need to get my operation out of the way first.
6. Date night? How many nights per month?
We try to get in at least one although in fairness it does tend to end up being more like one every couple of months due to finances and Ollie’s shifts. However with Ollie having the odd day off in the week we have been known to head off while Joshua is in nursery and Beth at school to go out and squeeze in a trip out .. although these do tend to be of the mundane Tesco variety .. but at least its child free!
7. Your child’s favourite show?
Tree Fu Tom closely followed by Thomas Tank …. neither of which I am a great fan, although I do love it when Joshua tries to mimic Tree Fu Toms spell poses!
8. Name one thing you bought before you had your baby and never ended up using?
Muslins .. I don’t get them .. they are not big enough to cover projectile vomit and not thick enough to stop the puke soaking through …… why?
9. Your child’s favourite food?
For Beth this depends on what she thinks she can get away with! .. but that’s tweens! For Joshua its hands down bananas! .. he cant get enough and if we let him he would eat a dozen a day!
10. How many cars does your family have?
We have 2, having done the whole car sharing thing with Beth’s Dad and ending up feeling isolated I was determined from day one when I took redundancy that it I would not give up my freedom!
11. Weight gain before pregnancy, during and after and now?
I have been up and down with my weight since having Beth nearly 13 years ago. In 2012 & 2013 after having Joshua I did loose 4.5 stone only to put 2 back on when I stopped smoking at the end of last year. So at the moment I am on a weight loss journey.
12. Dream holiday with your kids?
Disneyworld Florida is the one I would love to do, but funds would never ever allow this so we will have to dream. Last years Mark Warner Holiday was pretty awesome though!
13. Dream holiday without your kids?
Gosh there is a list for this one, Egypt, Seychelles, Maldives, Zambia, Amsterdam .. told you and this is only a few! Although Ollie travelled a lot in the past since we got together and I already had Beth plus we had Joshua quite quickly our holidays have all been family ones.
14. How has your life changed since your baby has been born?
With Beth I was a working single Mum and this time I have been fortunate to stay at home with Joshua and I think this has made me far calmer than I had been previously as a parent and a person.
15. Finish the sentence: ‘It makes my heart melt to see … ‘
my children laugh
16. Where do you shop for your kids?
Anywhere I can get a good bargain! I like nothing more than a bargain so I will shop around.
However Beth is at the age she is starting to by her own clothes and so she is at an age that New Look is her best friend and Joshua does have a lot of super market branded clothing as its easy to pick up and super reasonable with prices.
17. Favourite makeup and skincare products?
I have really really struggled with skincare and make-up over recent years as I have really sensitive skin and acute eczema and Melasma so I have yet to find anything that I could rave about.
18. Huggies or Pampers?
Neither, I loved Aldi nappies while Joshua was in nappies but in the past few months he has been in pull up and we loved Asda’s. I wanted to do cloth nappies and was full of good intention however I really felt quite anxious so chicken out.
19. Have you always wanted kids?
Yes. Although probably not as young as I did do. I found out I was pregnant with Beth at age 20.
20. Best part about being a mum?
Knowing you are forming an independent well rounded individual that could change the world … also hugs and love …
