If you have followed me for a while you will know I am somewhat obsessed with Star Wars.
I grew up on the originals and now have the pleasure of sharing my love with the kids. Joshua is coming up for 7 and is starting to show an interest in the new movies so much so I think a cinema trip is in order to see the newest film with him even though I have watched The Last Jedi before Christmas with my friends.
For me learning to love a series of films means allowing as many elements as you can into the equation and play is a massive one of those.
My friends over at Hasbro have been on the ball this year and released some really fabulous toys just before Christmas to co-inside with the new release film and I think some of these are absolutely genius!
Star Wars Forces of Destiny Rey of Jakku and BB8 Set – £24.99
We really liked this playset with Rey and BB8, She swings her lightsaber round if you squeeze her legs and BB8’s head swivels full circle which Joshua thought was hilarious. Rey has her hair coiffed just as in the films and she has fully movable extremities from her hands and head to her knees and elbows so its great for full play.
The attention to detail on her is second to none and Rey and BB8 have made for great adventures over the last few weeks.
Forces of Destiny Rey of Jakku and BB8 are reasonably sized and with enough detail that any child 4 and over is going to have blast.
Star Wars The Last Jedi Kylo Ren Interactech Figure – £24.99
Just like the playset above this Kylo Ren is second to non on detailing. He is robust and is approximately 12 inches tall and free-standing so can stand and look scary without you having to do anything!
Unlike Rey above he is not fully jointed and his arms move in their sockets and his legs do the same but the hands, elbow and knees don’t move, which is what I guess gives him his rigidity for standing.
What Joshua loved more than anything about this action figure is that this one is fully interactive and with an easy to action switch on the back Kylo Ren comes alive ready to battle. There are 60 phrases built-in and with certain movements he says certain phrases and his lightsaber lights up.
Of all the action figures we received the Last Jedi Kylo Ren Interactech figure has been the one most played with.
Star Wars Forces of Destiny Rey of Jakku Extendable Staff – £29.95
The Rey of Jakku Extendable Staff is built for protecting your fellow Jedi’s. It is not electronic in any way and has a real likeness to Rey’s iconic staff. If you spin the staff it will extend to 3.5 feet in length (make sure nothing is near you when you do this as I guarantee will get damaged and that includes younger brothers *cough cough*
What is fantastic about this toy is the fact it can be combined with a lightsabers from the BladeBuilder system (like the next toy I am going to mention) so I love the fact it can be completely customisable for play.
Star Wars Bladebuilders Path Of The Force Lightsaber – £49.99
The Path Of Forces Lightsaber is a total thing of beauty for this Star Wars fans out there like me. In fact after getting to play with this and customising with the extendable staff above Joshua was totally hooked.
It comes with demo batteries only do you will need to fit in 3 AAA batters before you start which is simple to do. It comes with 2 connectors with it, one is a Sith connector and one is a Jedi connector. Each one will customise the lightsaber red or blue respectively. Each handle has a button that actions things, the 4 blades in Sith mode and knife in Jedi mode.
The lightsaber also makes sounds when you play and hit something so its wise to not do this around any toddlers as Jacob wanted to keep banging it into Joshua’s legs. Joshua however took great delight in hitting my sofa cushions.
I like how you can choose which side of the force you are on and that for me gives it another element of play.
Star Wars The Last Jedi Force Link Starter Set – £24.99
Lastly but by no means least is the Force Link Starter Set. This for me is the icing on the cake of all things Star Wars from Hasbro.
It comes with a Kylo Ren figure in the pack along with the ‘Link’ wearable technology and once you have installed 3 AAA batteries and popped the wrist strap on and activated it your Kylo Ren will come alive.
For me the genius about this is the fact you have the option to buy any of the 30 figures in the range once you have the starter pack so you really can customise the play as if you were making your own Star Wars movie.
Playing with Kylo Ren was great fun and Joshua loved it as he is packed full of sounds and phrases that I recognised from the film even if he didn’t as he hasn’t seen the film he still enjoyed playing. There are several more Characters on the must buy list for this new play system that I know he will be chuffed with for his birthday in April.
We have loved some of the new toys from the range and I have no doubt that the range is something you need to be looking at if you have a small person that is Star Wars mad!
Thank you Hasbro for allowing us to try them out and for Joshua to start falling in love with the new films that stole my heart all those years ago with the originals.
