No matter what age your children are when they get ill it’s an awful feeling as a parent.
The only thing worse than that is when your baby is poorly and them still being too little to tell you where it hurts.
This last month Jacob had been fluctuating between pain and discomfort to out-and-out rage with the pain.
Thankfully however we have known it was teeth related but at 3am in the morning there is nothing scarier than a child screaming uncontrollably, with a super high temperature to freak you out.
Jacob has been lucky until recently and not suffered with the immense pain teething can bring. Only suffering instead with dribble, red cheeks and going off his food. This time has been all the above and more.
Only a few days after returning home from holiday the pain started and the early hours wake ups kicked into full gear. He has been waking from deep sleep abruptly and screaming his lungs out with nothing consoling him other than a trip downstairs with me for a cuddle for a couple of hours and another dose of paracetamol.
Last weekend after a nightmare of a weekend for my in-laws. As my poor mother in law resigned herself to sleeping on the floor with him after an inconsolable night while both boys stayed over. I had been dreading another month of sleep deprivation.
After seeing him struggle for the last month I thought it wise to get a second opinion but lost my temper with the lack of free Dr’s appointments and instead I obviously consulted with Dr Google which can sometime be a good thing. But mainly a bad thing where health issues are concerned.
On this occasion however I did find a way of finding Dr’s appointments more quickly with top UK Dr’s called Topdoctors.co.uk Although going private is never something I would normally consider if the NHS isn’t able to help quickly it certainly is something I would do if needed and where time was of the essence not just for the kids but me too.
My next concern if I did decide to go forward with paying privately for appointments would be where to start on finding the best Doctor for the job. Luckily the Top Doctors site only recommends the very best Dr’s in their fields
This time thankfully the teething symptoms are starting to subside and I have our retired village Pharmacist to hand since it’s my Dad and with him now being retired I have his expertise to myself.
I am getting increasingly frustrated with not being able to access appointments when needed without the use of tears, snot and begging at my surgery and it seems I am not alone reading this article from the Guardian confirms its a nightmare for all and not just in this area.
Thankfully we are over the worst of Jacob’s teething and here’s hoping for a few weeks back to normal at least before the next crisis needs sorting as it invariably does with kids.
I am glad my poorly baby is finally on the mend and he is getting back to his cheeky self. Being poorly sucks.
