However, for most families getting a great deal for the holiday is great but what about that all important budget while you are there?
In the past this is where we came unstuck while on holiday so here are some tips to keeping your pennies in your pocket on your holiday.
Shop Around When Exchanging Money
Changing money before you leave for your holiday can save you lots of argo before you even fly and save a really reasonable amount if you shop around and take your time to buy. Dont leave it till the last-minute and don’t rely on getting money out of cash machines either some have a really costly fee attached.
Plan Your Holiday
No one wants to have a super rigid plan in place but having the basics of a plan can help you keep the prices down.
If you are planning on booking transfers or excursions in taxi’s why not book when you book your flights, doing it this way will mean you have them booked in advance so less stress and many companies will charge less than booking on the day.
Also excursions and planned trips can work out cheaper if you are booking tickets online before you fly!
Watch Out For Data Roaming
If you have kids that are going to want to turn on their mobiles while on holiday you need to think about that disastrous roaming charge! Dont get caught out. Phone your mobile company and query what this charge is for you while away.
Many places these days tend to have free WiFi in some holiday resorts and places however this is worth checking the last thing you want is a three figure bill on your return home!
Pounds Or Euros?
If you are heading to Spain or anywhere else that deals in Euros this Summer then all the advice I have read indicates what when using your bank or credit cards you need to choose Euros instead of pounds, something I have fallen foul of in the past! For the full facts and figures Martin Lewis for Money Saving Expert has done the number crunching and has the full low down for you HERE.
Pound Shops Can Be YOur Best Friend!
When travelling with small kids visiting a £1 shop before departure can save a small fortune. Forget taking expensive toys and games go back to basics and why not give the kids £10 to spend each for toys and games so they can pick some for the plane and some for the holiday. No tears if something gets broken or left behind and no purchasing toys or tat while you are out and about! Plus when packing to go home you can pack or leave them behind for others to play with.
This obviously it might sounds like hard work, since the reason you go on holiday is to relax but if you are not all-inclusive all the meals will need to be factored in and eating out for every meal can be immensely costly. Work out your budget for eating out and then check out the local supermarkets, try some local foods as these can be cheaper and why not see if there are BBQ facilities at your accommodation? local salads, meats and fish can go down a storm and save a few pennies!
If you have the luxury of your own kitchen don’t be tempted by too many nights out at the local while on holiday its easy to get carried away and spend more than intended. Why not buy some local wines and beers, they can work out especially cheap and you will still get to try out some of the flavours the location has to offer!
For the kids why not buy bottles of water and add in cordial juices and either fridge them or even freeze them the night before so they cooler for longer and no extra money is spent while at the beach! … if you freeze them why not make sure you pack a couple of cool bags in your suitcase when you pack to keep them extra cool for longer.
