In less than a month we are off on our adventures and are heading off to Tunisia, followed by an adventure to Rhodes in July, which lets be honest is really exciting. However It has got me thinking about our holidays in the UK and the last one we went on we actually gatecrashed my Mum and Dad’s cottage in Staiths on the Yorkshire coast and it was magic.
Having been spurred on by that last amazing UK holiday, I am busy making lists as to not only where we want to go but also what we look for when we holiday in the UK .. So here are some of our tips on what to look for.
Location – It’s a really obvious one but you need to have some ideas on what area you are after as not least it will help quell the arguments with husband/partner/wife or travelling buddy. This also will help you have a better idea of the travel arrangements that may need to be made for your holiday.
Read the details! – This is one I have to make myself do! .. I often get so excited that I miss things on the website/listing and presume that a property has the things in it you need!
Think about the space – Again sounds obvious, however its easy to order estimate the space you will need or even to overestimate, if you overestimate it could be rather costly. Will you be basing your time at the accommodation or will you be only using it for sleeping in?
Research the area – Will you need to shop when you arrive, is there anywhere nearby? what about the places in the area you want to visit, will they be open? You also need to be aware of the area in terms of gradients maybe if mobility might be an issue for you.
For the next UK trip I think finding family friendly cottages is paramount, with a teenager and a 4-year-old finding one with space in for the holiday tat along with space for the hormonal timeout for the teen is a must!
We would love to book a cottage break before the end of this year, maybe towards the October half term to de-stress before the Christmas pressures start, and after last years break with my parents I would love to have a cottage with an open fire and near to a coast line so we can walk everyone’s legs off in the fresh air!
Although my one little extra would be a hot tub if there was a cottage with one of those .. It might just be higher up that list! … Well it would be nice to have a glass of wine and some time out wouldn’t it!
