I am not sure exactly what it is about this cheeky pair but Topsy and Tim have captured Joshua’s heart for quite some time on Ceebies so when Ladybird Books asked us to take a look at the new Topsy and Tim books based on Little Big Moments that happen in life for little folks we got excited.
As my little guy has got bigger there are fewer firsts but it makes those that do happen all that more special and I like to take the time to appreciate the magic that they create for Joshua and the privilege they give me to see them happen!
In Topsy and Tim’s Zoo adventure they find out about all the animals they see and how the zookeepers look after them as they take their first visit to the zoo! …. So with not having ever visited a Zoo for a full day out we decided to take Joshua on his first visit like Topsy and Tim!
Next was to get ready to go and of course take our topsy and tim book for our journey followed by making a list of all the animals we had hoped to see and for all of us the top of our list was in fact a polar bear!
We are really lucky to have a Zoo just over an hour away in the form of the Yorkshire Wildlife Park and it had been on our radar for quite some time and were even more ecstatic when we found out just how easy it was to get there … I am sure there will be yet more trips on the cards but what happened on this visit?
We discovered Lions, Tigers, Giraffes and Monkeys … but best of all we discovered Polar Bears! The 2 current Polar Bears that are in residence were amazing they were swimming and playing and they really were a sight to see and some super news is that there is building taking place to actually house more Polar Bears in the future too!
Around the park there were some fantastic signs at every enclosure explaining each animal, what they like and key information on each species of animal … like the baboons … did you know that they had bare bottoms for a reason? We didn’t but it seems they have them to stop them falling out of trees! … Who knew … and what was really funny was seeing Joshua’s face on realising they had bare bottoms in the first place!
Visiting this lovely Zoo and seeing Joshua’s face on the discovery of each new animal really was amazing and the most magical moment for me was seeing how excited he got at getting to actually stroke a Wallaby and you certainly don’t get to do that everyday!
As days out go we had the most amazing time and I so can’t wait to see more firsts with Joshua …. the next big first for me and for many others is the first day of school in a few weeks!
The next stop on the Topsy and Tim tour will be with the lovely Jennie at Edspire who will be posting w/c 31 August about Topsy and Tim: Start School and if you would like to hear the new Little Big Moments Podcast: Starting School – Episode 1 HERE
To celebrate the launch of Topsy and Tim Go To The Zoo, Ladybird Books are offering a copy to giveaway to one lucky reader, the winner will be able to share this lovely story with their little folk too.
