Recently we had the absolute pleasure of discovering a new to us, online toy retailer specialising in wooden railways and were really excited. Wooden Railways is a dedicated and passionate company based in Hampshire that stocks everything you would need to create amazing child friendly adventures, with trains, parts and sets in abundance.
Joshua has loved wooden toys through the years as they are complete classics. From his wooden swing outdoors to his much loved wooden train set when he was a little bit younger and he would spend days engrossed in some track building and adventure creating. So we were eager to introduce it to Jacob to see what he thought of it and to find out if both boys would play together.
Wooden Railways sent us over a collection of different pieces of track, with bridges and tunnels, along with a host trains and trucks ready for our first Oliver train adventure for both boys.
Jacob has been eagerly awaiting the box coming back down stairs after it arrived earlier this week. He has taken a great delight in his ‘choo choo’s ‘ and so I knew that finally getting that box down at the weekend would be an exciting occasion for him…. And I wasn’t wrong. He almost squealed when he realised that we were opening all the packets and boxes for him.
The chunky solid track was easily assembled by Joshua and both boys were straight into the pile of track to get an adventure underway.
The well built trains and trucks were by far the favourite element for Jacob how was thrilled with his new ‘choo choo’s’ and Joshua loved setting up the tracks for Jacob and himself to play with.
There were so many pieces I hadn’t seen when Joshua had a wooden set, with intersections and track that veers off in 2 directions. The possibilities for play are endless.
I loved the size of the pieces, great for fine motor skills without being too challenging and a nice enough size to still pack away easily when we wanted the living room floor back again.
The fact that packs like this mean we can utilise the space we have and if we don’t want a massive track we can just set a smaller one up for Jacob on his table instead.
Forget plastic and fiddly trains and tracks these fabulous wooden versions are so well made that they will out last both my kids and no doubt the grandkids too.
Here’s to new toy adventures, imaginations and Wooden Railways for starting off Jacob’s new toy journey.
