Over the last few months there have been so many moments with Jacob that I have realised that he is no longer a baby but a fully fledge little person that is developing his own likes and dislikes and his personality. Normally at this stage a child’s growth is celebrated by the big milestone, like teeth coming through, sleeping through and first steps or even first shoes.
So recently when my friends at Britax asked me to share our ‘Uncelebrated Milestones’ to celebrate their launch of the new TRIFIX -iSize car seat I jumped at the chance. Life is chaotic with a small human in tow and its easy to forget all the little things and get bogged down with the day-to-day so it’s nice to take the time out to celebrate what would normally go by unnoticed.
This last few months Jacob has developed a love of water. paddling, swimming, bathing … it’s all the same to him.
He is obsessed with water and if he can get it in is face …even better. It is so nice to see and its taken the pressure off bath times and allowed us to spend some time swimming as a family without his tears! For me swimming is a life skill all children need to learn so this is super that he is so comfortable in water just ahead of this booked swimming lessons.
Recently I have also noticed a massive shift in how Jacob interacts with his brother. He was just playing next to Joshua (age 6) and only ever really coming close to him when he wanted to take off him what he was playing with or to give him a slap! .. This seems to now have changed and their relationship is transitioning into that of solid friends. Jacob is now giving his bother kisses and cuddles without prompting. He is also loving playing with him not just next to him.
I wrote about their developing bond last week HERE and its something I am going to be documenting fiercely. These little boys make ms so proud so knowing they have each others backs is super special in my book.
One of our final uncelebrated milestones has been finally watching Jacob develop a love for his food and actually feeding himself. Up until a few weeks ago Jacob has been a fairly lazy eater and refused to feed himself if there is an option of getting someone else to feed him instead.
It has been a frustrating and messy journey but it has been a lovely corner to turn with him. He is now enjoying sitting at the table with us and eating and exploring foods himself.
We were worried that we would have to ban meals out with him as they were so very stressful but thankfully it looks like any birthday meals (it’s my birthday next month) will be good to go! *Whoop Whoop!*
What uncelebrated milestones have you had recently with your little ones?
