I am a fizzy pop freak and only when I am at the gym do I ever drink water… So far I am super lucky that Joshua (age 3) has been hoodwinked into thinking he doesn’t like pop and Beth (age 13) saw through that some years ago and is now a hardcore juice drinker of epic proportions. I had been buying double concentrated juices but since she still makes them so thick with cordial the straw stands up, along with countless arguments on the effects these will be having on her teeth, it was time for a change of tact.
Recently we were asked if we would like to take part in a challenge with SodaStream to see if we could make water more exciting and to see if we could cut down on the amounts of sugary drinks and on a whole drink more water and specially at meal times.
The reason behind this .. other than the fact I know our family on a whole does not drink enough water, it seems that “a recent study revealed that 45 per cent of UK parents don’t give their kids water at mealtimes“, which I know I am guilty of at breakfast, and its only when Joshua asks I remember (Mum of the year award heads south)
What for me was utterly staggering was that “research also found that 45 per cent of parents admit their children don’t have the recommended daily intake of water, with one in 20 claiming that their kids drinks no water whatsoever” now that is staggering … although I know myself I can go days without drinking any water what so ever …. I know its unhealthy but I am so addicted to the fizz It never enters my head to reach for water instead so this is one Mummy who really needs to start leading by example!
When it arrived we were all really excited to get going, but with Joshua already thinking he doesn’t like juice he really loved the option to drink fizzy water, mort so than I originally thought!
As I said I could previously go for days without having any water at all and I am super pleased to report that I have found a new affinity with fizzy bubbles … OK maybe still not as healthy as it could be, but for me its been a massive step in the right direction as I have fallen in love with, fizz water and Elderflower cordial…. I know the cordial defeats the object but having discovered that SodaStream also do Sugar Free options I have just ordered some of those for me!
So now the whole family can look at increasing the water intake and instead of buying bottles of juice and fizzy pop that I have no real idea of what they contain .. I am going to now be more in control of what we are drinking!
If you think your family could do with a water boost, why not take the challenge too!
Disclaimer: We were sent a SodaStream machine and some bottles of water to take part in this challenge.
