The day I had been dreading finally arrived a few weeks ago.
I wrote a little while back about getting ready for weaning as we had noticed lots of changes in Jacobs behaviour.
He had an increased milk appetite, unsettled behaviour and even an obsession with watching us eat and crying at not getting any himself were surefire indicators that he was more than ready at 5 months, but after a really unsettled start with acute reflux I was feeling really anxious about upsetting the apple cart with Jacobs eating.
However we started slowly with baby rice mixed with his reflux milk and to say he was excited by this new adventure would be an understatement.
He nailed more than I thought and then topped up with the remaining bottle which worked brilliantly for the first few days.
Next we included baby rice with his milk and added in some pureed fruits which again he loved.
Last week it was all about real life food, admittedly jars and pouches but next week I am going to have an afternoon cooking fruits and vegetables and make some home-cooked foods I can pop in the freezer for him instead of relying on just jars and pouches.
As for Jacobs reflux, we have had no sick up since we started weaning so thank goodness for that but predominantly he is still drinking most of his anti reflux milk (2 bottles less than before weaning) so this is going to help I have no doubt.
I think slow and steady will win this race but for now I am just enjoying seeing the faces he pulls at trying new flavours.
