This year we are immensely excited to be travelling to Lake Garda in Italy in June and this is the first time we have booked and travelled as a family without the safety net of booking a package holiday.
Now obviously booking a holiday this way has its advantages and its disadvantages. Firstly booking things independently can mean that you are more in control of the whole experience and can cater for yourself. Also it allows you to shop around to save money if your budget is a little tighter like it has been in our case this year. What has got me utterly intrigued however is airfares and pricing.
In the space of a day there can be a really dramatic difference to what you pay and it seems I am not alone in this discovery, as travel experts discovered recently that the cheapest days of the week to book flights are on Saturdays and Sundays and for anyone with plenty of time to book ahead then Opodo have found that April and August are the cheapest months to book flights too!
We booked our flights last year and having looked since I am rather pleased we did as the cost will have nearly doubled if we decided to buy them now!
This month we have to book our airport car parking and I am hoping that by booking that early there will be a discount too!
All in all going for a non package deal has saved us almost double the amount it would have cost us on booking a family holiday as a package deal so lets just hope now that by being organised we don’t blow that money we saved on the holiday clothes!
So if you still have flights to book keep your eyes peeling in April! …. It might see you saving a pretty penny!
