Last year we embarked on making sure we shared our love over Christmas with our very first reverse advent calendar.
If you haven’t heard of a reverse advent, it really is the same as an advent calendar except in reverse. For everyday you are doing the reverse advent you put something in the advent box. At the end you take the box to a food bank, or somewhere that may need supplies over the festive period for people in more need than yourself.
From completing the reverse advent last year there were a couple of things that I learnt. Firstly baby food, nappies and supplies are massively helpful as are tinned and packet goods. Also delivering well before Christmas is even more helpful so those families that are needing the support before the big day can get it when they need it must and hopefully take off some of their added pressure.
This year I am intending to carry on with my reverse advent, except not at advent. I am going to be completing my collection from the 21st November through to 15th December – That gives me 25 days to give back to those that need a little extra support over this costly and sometimes hard time of the year and will enable me to get the boxes to where they need to be with time to spare.
So Why Women’s Aid?
Women’s Aid is a charity very close to my heart as its one that helped me 16 years ago. In fact 16 Christmas’s ago I spent my daughters first Christmas in a women’s aid refuge after domestic violence.
I arrived with no money, very few possessions and struggled for food. I had been living in the Refuge for 3 months by the time Christmas arrived and during that time it was the generosity of others that got me through.
This year I am not alone with my thoughts of helping those that might need it most as some amazing brands heard my cry for help and are going to be sharing the festive spirit by donating products into the pot too.
I have been blown away already by the offers of help we have had from some amazing brands but obviously we are still accepting donations so if you are a brand that wants to help please do get in touch.
One of the hardest times in the refuge for me was the festive period and the feeling that I couldn’t give my daughter what others had was heartbreaking. So I am honoured to be able to do even a little bit for such a worthwhile cause.
I would love you my wonderful readers to support my festive endeavour by sharing my posts far and wide and why not pop over and see what wonderful brands are supporting the cause over on Facebook and Twitter in a few weeks time.
