Since being a wee tot I have loved reading and that passion in my tween and teen stages only ever increased. Some weekends if there was nothing much happening I would immerse myself in the Sweet Valley High books which were written by Francine Pascal and which were quite apt in the fact the stories were based around identical twin sisters and their story growing up, when in fact I too was a twin too!
As an adult I had until recently read every night as part of healthy sleep routine and I have always encouraged Beth who is nearly 13 to read.
Last year we had to have serious words with her as she was quite happy to walk to and from school physically reading a book. Subsequently on one occasion she even bumped into a post. So in order to make her safer we have had to put some safety limits in place !
Last Christmas it became slightly easier to manage Beth’s obsession as she got a Kindle and since she is not allowed to take it to school I am fairly confident that I wont get ‘that’ phone call .. you know the school/hospital saying my daughter has injured herself.. because she was reading on the way to school … or is it only my daughter that does that?
So with trying to get back into reading and the fact the Beth already has a kindle I am thinking of treating myself to a kindle in honour of World Book Day and updating my reading to the 21st century too … although there is nothing like cracking the spine of a paper book, and books in theory can be lighter and less dangerous than an electronic devise smacking you in the face when you nod off.. or maybe not .. has anyone tested this theory?
I am hoping Joshua will join his Sister and I in our love of reading and so far all the signs look good …. Although last minute letters about dressing up in book characters and having to run off to Argos at the last minute for World Book Day Outfits is not the greatest fun. I would much prefer to be organised and get them ahead of schedule! So maybe with Joshua we can be more organised?
So what do you have planned for World Book Day?
