I am always very lucky to find new businesses and places to visit here in Nottinghamshire and last week I discovered my new most favourite place.
Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Spa in Barnby Moor Retford.
On arriving there was plenty of customer car parking and great signage round the building.
The Spa is obviously a new building compared to the hotel but it has been sympathetically built to live side by side with the 17th Century hotel.
On arrival at the spa we were seated in the luxury reception area to fill in our forms and we were offered tea, coffee or fruit juices with the beautiful touch of the delicious bell-shaped shortbread biscuit!
Our spa butler collected us from reception and took us through to the spa showing us where things were located and what services they offered. With water and fruit served intermittently throughout the day they were on hand to help make further bookings for things, and explain how things worked or fetch alternative drinks from the bar.
The ladies changing areas were superbly equipped with fabulous power showers, hairdryers and the use of straighteners (although located in the reception) and we were provided with sumptuous grey robes and complimentary flip-flops which was a wonderful touch.
The main thermal area has relaxing seating dotted around the main rooms and stunning indoor/outdoor vitality pool and just outside there is an external courtyard with heated tiled loungers, a giant rattan apple and beautiful wooden lodge style seating with stunning fire pits and warm blankets provided so you can relax outside even in the colder months.
The rooms leading off the main area consist of snowstorm experience (nope I am not kidding you, it was amazing) along with the herbal laconium, stone bath, alpine sauna, a shower walk and ice bucket, steam bath and salt inhalation room.
We had the pleasure of moving from room to room as we felt fit and I have to say what I had noticed about the spa was the fact it was built with customers in mind. The layout meant that even with others in the spa there was no feeling of being too busy and natural flow of people in and out rooms was laid-back and gentle.
All the experiences were wonderful and honestly had been so well thought out to relax and cleanse both the mind and body. We loved taking in some fresh air on the heated tiled loungers which I have to say was the oddest thing for a November day to be in robe outside with the wind blowing but my goodness they really are warm under your body.
The indoor/outdoor vitality pool has around 9 stations that provide different experiences from neck and back massaging to whole body experiences and I loved how spread out they were so even with others in the pool there was never a feeling of being crowded.
While at the spa we had the opportunity to try out the spas Sabbia Med treatment (Normally charged at £20pp) this treatment is a sunlight based treatment that can help with vitamin D levels and season light disorders as a 30 minute session can provide you with enough sunshine to help boost your vitamin D levels. Now I have to be honest walking into this laid-back room I didn’t expect to much as being a chronic vitamin D deficiency sufferer along with my friend who also has low levels of vitamin D we both knew it was worth a shot. The sand was warm and the room spacious and after getting comfortable the spa butler turned on the experience and left us to relax. The lighting in the room started at sunset and went through lots of phases of lighting and ending on a sunset. We got to chat and relax and on finishing the experience I have to say I felt more energetic than I had done in months!
For lunch we were treated to the most delicious fare with 3 different starters, mains or desserts on offer and with staggered dining it meant that there was only 2 other tables in the brassiere with us so again felt so very laid back and dare I say it special with the waiting service and chef all on hand to answer any questions.
The food was totally out of this world with a varied offering and with a comprehensive drinks menu with varied pricing for all budgets our lunch was wonderful and we really did feel so very spoilt.
In the afternoon we had pre booked a couple of 30 minute treatments, a Sperience Elements Massage and a Taste of Germaine de Capuccini and both were superb. I have to be honest and say being a non confident person with regards to my own body I was feeling a little anxious about the massage but the therapist was excellent, she put me at ease from the off and there were no awkward silences and forced small talk we chatted a little but I soon forgot to talk to be honest as I felt my stresses slip away.
The facial was my second treatment and it’s a treatment I have had numerous times before but the products smelt divine and melted into the skin and in the days that followed I have to say my skin is far more hydrated than before the treatment and also my pores are less open and I have had few spots too!
Ye Olde Bell Luxury Spa is honestly now my most favourite place. I felt totally spoilt and pampered all day and since it’s only just over 40 minutes from my front door I will certainly be back but don’t worry if you are coming from further afield don’t worry the hotel’s on site accommodation and restaurant will certainly add to the experience! (more on that from me next week)
Thank you Ye Olde Bell Luxury Spa for having us I can certainly see why even though you are fairly new entry to the spa arena you are one of the top spas in the UK!
