Life seems to be mega busy of late.
Days are slipping by in the blink of an eye and the weeks are following suit.
Term time weeks seem to be packed with so many after school activities with swimming, Beavers and football and that’s just Joshua. So it goes without saying as the school terms roll on by I am guilty of just trying to survive the onslaught of chaos.
Last week was half term here and with Jacob now at nursery for 2 days it gave me the opportunity to spend some much-needed time one on one with Joshua.
It has been months and months since I last spent any real quality time with Joshua other than the fleeting 20 minutes will Jacob might be napping to between cooking tea and unloading the tumble drier. So last week was special.
As we dropped Jacob off at nursery I watched Joshua in the back of the car as his excitement grew and the realisation dawned on me that he needed this just as much as I did.
We headed to the local bowling alley and swapped our shoes for those immensely ridicules bowling shoes, bought drinks and started on our bowling battle.
The first game I have to say Joshua was on fire with 4 strikes and my obsession with not damaging my nails he absolutely thrashed me and won like a boss!
Game two was all about me and the strikes but Joshua played well and soon was chasing my tail but I just pipped him at the post.
We managed to squeeze in a third and final decider game which was a close call till turn 6 and then I found my stride and took the lead and the win of the day. Joshua took it well, and with far less sulking than I would have given if I had lost anyway!
It may have only been a few hours of my time but that time was priceless for me and my boy, a boy who will soon not want to spend time with his mummy bowling as the years slip by.
I have made a promise to him and to me that we are going to make it a school holiday tradition that he and I go and do something just for us. Something different each time but something he can pick and we can just go and do it.
The bowling trip last week is just the beginning of a beautiful tradition.
