Lets Go Ride A Bike – For The First Time

Lets Go Ride A Bike - For The First Time The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseIt maybe winter time but it’s not stopping the kids getting outside thank goodness. They are equally as pleased to be allowed out as I am to get them out.

Since Christmas Jacob has been asking for his bike stabilisers off. If I am honest he has been asking for a while but since he glides around on his balance bike and has taken a very limited interest in his pedal bike we kind of thought taking the stabilisers off would be more appealing so this month Ollie finally took them off.

The excitement grew for not only Jacob but us too. After all it isn’t everyday we get to witness first anymore especially as next month he turns 4.

Jacob was eager to get going on his maiden voyage. And if I am honest he did reasonably well. There was a great deal of balance going on but very limited amount of peddling!

Ollie set him off each time and he did a super job of holding on tight and he obviously loved every second of it but I don’t think he will be winning any medals to be fair.

He has been trying on and off all month and is still not fully pedal perfect but his more recent attempts are certainly getting better.

For me learning to ride a bike is like a rite of passage for all children and is a life skill that will stay with them forever.

The next lifeskill he needs to learn and master is to be able to swim so next we need to find a class locally with kids his own age so he can get water safe and be able to swim with confidence.

For the next few months however we are going to get more practice under his belt on 2 wheels and hopefully crack it so we can go out on bikes as a family.
