What Are Some Of The Ways You Can Manage And Pay Your Debts? The Oliver\\\'s Madhouse

If you’re going to truly reach financial freedom, you’ll need to learn how to manage and pay your debts. But that’s often easier said than done, especially with the number of households with large debt rising by a third.

To ensure you don’t become part of the statistic, we’ve rounded up some good ways to stay on top of your finances below.

  1. Get good at debt management

To reach financial freedom, good debt management is non-negotiable.

The good news is that this is relatively straightforward when you get the hang of things!

To manage your debts properly, firstly look at all your outstanding debts. Once you’ve got a grasp on your overall debt, try to come up with a plan to clear them in priority order. You should always begin by clearing problem debts first, i.e., those that are likely to cost you more in the long run.

When you’re looking to identify problem debts, it’s a good idea to look at the interest rates attached to loans, as they normally cost you the most in total. If you clear these high-interest loans first, you’ll minimise the amount you pay in interest.

  1. Learn how to budget

Although budgeting isn’t always fun, it’s necessary if you’re going to reach financial freedom. By creating a strict budget and sticking to it, you’ll be able to spend more of your income paying back debts. As part of your budget, create a list of everything you have coming in and going out. That way, you can see what you can afford to pay off each month.

As part of your budgeting process, you should also take the time to go through and cancel unnecessary subscriptions or memberships.

As grocery prices are rising at their fastest rate in eight years, it’s a good idea to try and cut back on your weekly shop too. Whether you choose to shop at cheaper shops or opt for more frozen or tinned foods where you can, your bank balance will thank you for it.

  1. Consider funding debt repayment

Sometimes debts from loans with high-interest rates can seem impossible to pay back. If this sounds familiar, you can use a personal loan with a lower interest rate to pay back a high-interest loan.

Although taking out more loans can seem counterintuitive, paying off your debt with a loan can help bring your repayments down to a more manageable level.

  1. Consolidate your debts

If you have multiple debts, you may be struggling to keep on top of repayments. If so, why not use debt consolidation to combine your debts? That way, you’ll be able to pay your debts back together and have a lower interest rate overall. The end result? More manageable payments!

  1. Get help

If you feel overwhelmed at the amount of debt you have to pay back or feel unable to pay your debts, it’s important to remember that you’re not alone.

If you can, it’s a good idea to reach out to family and friends for help and support. If that’s not an option, you can also reach out to professionals for expert advice, guidance, and help.
