The Rise Of Germs – Why My Kids Are The Grossest!

*Sponsored Feature*

The Rise Of Germs - Why My Kids Are The Grossest! The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseIt’s that time of the year again and tummy upsets, winter bugs and the dreaded cold and flu germs are upon us.

Last year for almost 6 weeks every member of our household was ill. It started with tummy upsets as the winter tummy bug kicked in and as we were all recovering the winter colds and flu started and then proceeded to go through us all at least twice.

I discovered my love of Dettol Antibacterial Surface Cleaner Wipes and Sprays during that time and they are my must go to items during winter for making sure any extra germs are gone. Don’t get me wrong some germs are great for the immune system but I certainly don’t want those cold and flu germs or anything that is going to make me poorly. Thankfully Dettol have my back with their wipes and sprays all helping to prevent the spread of cold and flu by killing 99.9% of germs.

The Rise Of Germs - Why My Kids Are The Grossest! The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseStatistics from Public Health England show there was a 61% increase in reported cases of cold and flu compared to the previous year. That means for every 10 children who miss school with a flu associated illness, eight household members would subsequently become ill. This winter could be even worse for the virus with 83% of the UK population regarding themselves as being ‘germ aware’ or ‘germ concerned’ yet only 40% of those buy antibacterial products.

As a parent, I know that most of our family’s germs are passed around in the playground from our kids and it can be a challenge to tackle them in the home. After all, if your kids are like my kids they are bound to be slightly gross.

The Rise Of Germs - Why My Kids Are The Grossest! The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseI have caught Joshua eating slugs and putting them in his pocket for a snack later on .. No really. Joshua really was the grossest when he was 3! Jacob however tends to hurl his food from his highchair and lick surfaces as he walks past including trees, pavement, doors, floors and toilets while waiting for his bath to be run.

The boys are also snot swipers … No matter how many tissues are placed round the house they still use sleeves to wipe and Jacobs favorite nose wiper is the sofa when he walks past. Not great when you think that the cold virus can stay on surfaces for up to 7 days.

I would be a liar if I said my kids are great hand washer and not at all ‘germy’ but if nothing else I am realistic about how gruesome they can be. With that in mind I now have a quick nightly ritual where a spray the Dettol All In One Spray over the soft furnishing and the toys in the toy box and give them a quick refresh and it gives the house some germ killing and air freshener in one! The hard surfaces all get a full antibac wipe down.

Any of this sound familiar? Check out this Mumsnet thread to see other stories from other mums, and share your own!

The Rise Of Germs - Why My Kids Are The Grossest! The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseI am not delusional about how gross my kids are but at least I am less stressed about-facing colds and flu germs this wintertime with Dettol.

Kids just love to share their germs far too freely.
My kids seem to pick up every bug and virus going around the school.

Only today I received a text from school stating there was a tummy bug going around..I’m now praying mine don’t get it
