4 Home Upgrades You Can Do Yourself

4 Home Upgrades You Can Do Yourself The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseFalling out of love with your new house? All it takes is some simple steps to put your stamp on the space and make it feel like home. Kick things off with these four easy upgrades you can do yourself.

  1. Refresh your walls

You’ll be amazed at the impact you can have by making simple changes to your walls.

Refresh the paint to bring brightness to the space or experiment with a new colour to cool or warm the room. When looking at shades, make sure you choose colours that match the mood of the room, such as blue in restful spaces. If you’re feeling brave, you could consider patterned wallpaper instead of paint, but be sure to prepare the wall properly for a smooth finish.

Hanging artwork is an even simpler way to add colour and interest to your walls. Go for one statement piece or create a gallery wall with a selection of smaller prints and pictures.

  1. Fit floating shelves

Maximise storage in your property without taking up any extra space by investing in floating shelves. These are relatively easy to fit even for DIY novices and enable you to display decorative possessions like plants, books, and photographs to bring character to your home.

Floating shelves are drilled directly into the wall with simple brackets; there’s no supportive frame, so unlike cupboards, they keep rooms feeling open. They’re also a much sleeker alternative to bulky traditional cabinets that take up as much space as they provide!

  1. Upgrade your lighting

When you look at new build homes online, you’ll notice that they are all bright and white. This is deliberate, as it shows off the size and shape of the property and is a neutral colour scheme that appeals to all. However, it can feel stark when you’re living in this environment day in and day out.

4 Home Upgrades You Can Do Yourself The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseUpgrade your lighting with warm bulbs and concealing fixtures for a softer glow, and combine lamps with your overhead lights for depth, dimension, and—crucially—cosiness. Complement this warmth with thick blankets and comfortable cushions.

  1. Install smart devices

Be part of the latest thing and introduce smart devices in your home. These 21st-century wonders are a great way to elevate your lifestyle, and many of them don’t require rewiring, so they’re more straightforward to install than you might think.

Start with smart speakers, lights, and plugs that can be turned on or off with voice control. Once you’re used to AI technology in the property, consider fitting a smart thermostat to help keep fuel bills to a minimum. Many consider video doorbells to be one of the best smart home devices, and you can get wire-free versions that don’t require any electrical expertise to put up.
