Internet safety is so important in this day and age. With the rise of social media and apps, there are so many more opportunities for people to be taken advantage of.
Despite there being age restrictions on certain social media, apps and video games too. There are plenty of young children accessing these mediums and being put at risk. Joshua is now 8 and as each year goes by the more he wants to be online, increasing his risk.
Every day we hear more news of something awful happening over the internet. Whether it involves online bullying from a child’s peers or grooming from an adult.
Although I make my living online, I am anxious to let my children spend too much time on the internet. I do also know I need to make some changes on supervision and parental controls. I have probably been burying my head in the sand.
Knowing the risks to children Plusnet have partnered with Internet Matters to raise awareness of children internet safety. Ensuring that their responsibility to help keep their customers is delivered.
They want to ensure that their customers are equipped with the right tools and knowledge to stay safe online.
Internet Matters being a not-for-profit organisation that’s single purpose is to help keep children safe in the digital world its a great feeling knowing that Plusnet are bringing in the big guns to really make a difference!
Internet Matters Plays
This partnership has also seen them working with Konnie Huq. Together they have created a series of three short plays which focus on the key online issues our children may face today online.
Each play focuses on one key issue per age range and has been created with the guidance of Internet Matters. These plays were developed in collaboration with the youth theatre Chickenshed. Who showcase and highlight the challenges we face as parents in keeping our children safe online.
The plays were performed by kids in a one-off performance on the 30th of April and the scripts have been uploaded to the Plusnet and Internet Matters websites HERE.

It is the company’s hope that their plays reach as many people as possible so they can use the stories to educate themselves about online safety too.
We have been talking to our kids about online safety recently. We used the scripts by Plusnet and Internet Matters themselves. And in light of those we have agreed some simple rules that Joshua helped us to set up as on how he can use his tablet and his switch at home.
Helping Adults Keep Kids Safe Online
It has definitely been an eye-opening experience learning a little more about online safety. Each and every day it seems like we have to worry about something else on the internet. There are so many amazing ways the internet is used. But are so many things that may affect our children negatively.
I am so grateful that companies and organisations such as Plusnet and Internet Matters. They are collaborating to ensure parents are aware of what is happening online.
Parenting is hard enough so any help is gratefully accepted in this house!
