An Easter Egg Competition

In light of being housebound and keeping safe its hard to keep the kids occupied. 

Joshua’s school have been amazing and are sending work everyday which has been useful at keeping some degree of routine. However, Joshua has always looked forward to the school’s annual egg decorating competition and he was sad to not have it this year.

Thankfully the school have decided to keep the tradition of the egg decorating albeit using polystyrene eggs  this year instead since real eggs are harder to get hold of right now.

The theme of this years competition was Easter. Making it simple for those of us a home to take part too. 

As a family we all decided to take part, even though it would only be Joshua’s egg that would be entered. 

If you know me personally you will know that I am a craft avoider. I hate mess and anything that can create it so for me to dig out the craft supplies I was anxious we would even complete the task without me melting down. But I was going to try. 

We have spent the lockdown on pretty much wearing comfortable clothes and the kids in PJ bottoms so crafting eggs was no different. The boys took to the dining table in PJ bottoms and got stuck in with tissue paper and glue and had a total ball with yellow feathers. 

Jacob got a little carried away with the eyes and his creation actually had an impressive 15 eyes .. That’s no mean feat since we were making easter chicks! 

I think Joshua enjoyed the morning more than all of us as he liked knowing his friends are at home doing the same as him and he is competing against them even though he cant be at school. 

After creating our masterpieces I sent Joshua’s entry into school and although we thought his egg looked like President Trump. Joshua’s head teacher pointed out that in fact he looked more like Boris Johnsons … which in fairness is probably quite apt with being on a lockdown and us watching the government updates every day.

This morning we had an amazing email from school to say he had come 2nd with his egg!! and there is a prize to follow! 

Thank you school for remaining there while we are at home and for allowing kids to still have some connection to their school and friends even in these uncertain times.
