Cecil Elf On A Shelf – The Story Continues

Elf on a shelf is a little like marmite, you either love it or hate it. 

Way back when in 2013 we decided to start the Elf on the shelf tradition with Joshua and it has been one that he has totally bought into and he thinks of Cecil as added member of the family. 

We get tears on Christmas Eve when Joshua now age 6 know he is due to fly back to the north pole for another year. 

This year we worried that this being the 5th Christmas with Cecil that the magic might start to crumble and Joshua might start to see through this cheeky elf’s escapades. 

After this weekend I have no doubt that magic is set for at least this year and heres hoping next year too. 

After some fairly tame elf moving up to now Cecil has found his stride once more and is swinging or hanging around like a champion and Joshua is totally transfixed by him. 

He has written him letters and made him cards and we even had tears from Joshua at the thought of disappearing again on the 24th. I have to be honest and say I am beyond thrilled he has loved this little elf as much as he has since his enthusiasm is rubbing off on Jacob and he is not searching and squealing every morning when finding Cecil too.

I know Ollie finds it painstakingly infuriating each night thinking up a new place to put him … and no doubt next year will be easier when we can put him in reachable places that this last 2 years we have been unable to. 

But the magic of Cecil our elf on a shelf is totally priceless seeing the smiles and happy faces on both boys each morning. 

I know the magic won’t remain forever with Joshua and each year we are taking a step closer to looking it but for now I am going to enjoy this tradition and savour in the magic that is their excitement for a little bit longer.
