Do you know just how proud I am of you? … You may only be 4 but I certainly hope you know in your little 4-year-old head how very very proud of you I am.
Last week you started your first week at school and I won’t lie, there were tears … although those were from me and not you.
The day you were born seemed only like yesterday and as your little hand fitted into mine the secret behind my smile was that my heart broke just a little bit … I know you have been to nursery for 2 and a half days a week before this but for the first time you were going for a full week and it felt like I was truly letting my heart wander round outside my body for the world to influence.
You tackled the first 4 days with total Joshua confidence and almost skipped through those doors … Friday there were tears Daddy tells me and yesterday there were more … who knows why as on both occasions you came out of school bouncing and happy …. I can only presume that you’re starting to feel the tiredness effect that seems to creep up on all little ones when the milestone of school finally starts.
Your very first day I knew you would get on in school when the first sentence out your mouth that night after I enquired about your day was your excitement at getting pudding everyday after lunch. I knew that the small things box had been ticked.
I can’t wait to see how the rest of this year and those that follow pan out on your school journey … I have no doubt you will do well but who knows in what career direction that might take you … for me as long as your happy I don’t care.
You make me very proud….

I’m sure Joshua will enjoy reading this letter when he’s grown! There is such a big difference between 2.5 days and 5 days of school … for us as the parents. The kids on the other hand just seem to roll with it 🙂 Glad he’s enjoying the start to school year!
