We are creeping into the last week of November and I am not ashamed to say it I am missing my garden.
I miss the flowers in bloom, the toddler rolling on the grass and the laughter.
My garden is feeling empty unloved and dead.
Or so I though until we ventured out there for a full 20 minutes. The last few weeks we have only really ventured into the garden on the way to the shed or to scare off one of a million cats from the area that like using our garden as a personal toilet (more on that one another time)
After being in for too many days to count I broke free of the patio door and stepped over the threshold and went in the garden.
To say it was refreshing would be an understatement …. it was cold .. but it was also refreshing, refreshing to see so many plants still battling to keep their colour and their delicate flowers. In fact some of them that had stopped flowering through the summer have now got their second wind so to speak and are looking very vibrant against the darkness of the fungus.
Fungus is by far something I have in abundance … in some amazing shapes, colours and sizes and in some areas so densely populated with the magical growths that even could start to believe there was faeries at the bottom of my garden.
When time is not against me next week I cant wait to get out there and do the Autumnal garden clean. To dead head, prune, and cut back ready for the serious winter months to soon be here.
I am making a mental note to make more effort to discover what is on my doorstep regardless of the weather this season.
Oh I know what you mean! I miss the sunshine and dry grass for kids to be playing on! I found some mushrooms in my garden too, they are amazing – just quietly growing amongst all the damp and dead leaves!

i love that fungi just appear .. you just dont seem them till they are there!
Cats can be a real nuisance – I’m a cat lover – but I really don’t want them visiting for that purpose. Is that a zebeddee you have there?
we dont have cats or dogs but the fouling does get on my nerves!

lol lol i found him in a garden centre about 8 years go and he is still doing well .. although i think a lick of paint is in order soon
I try to venture out to the garden quite regularly as the compost bin is at the top but it does frustrate me now it is so muddy and untidy. We never seem to get funghi in our garden but I see it on my daily walks. I don’t know why it avoids us!

You do have some amazing mushrooms there! It’s hard to make yourself go out when it’s damp and miserable isn’t, but definitely worth it 🙂

The fungi are loving this damp weather aren’t they? I spotted some huge ones out in our garden earlier today too 🙂

We always try our best to get out whatever the weather. The weather is never going to be ideal for most things this time of year, but that only means it’s ideal for completely different things instead. You may get wet, but you have towels at home. You may get cold, but you have the heating and warm clothes to go back to. It may be dark, but most kids love wandering around out there at night.
Your garden looks great even now. A little less colourful perhaps, but great!

I’m missing sunshine and dry grass too but the abundance of fungi is not a bad substitute 🙂 Seeing those red spotted Fly Agaric types out in the woods (horribly poisonous – even to touch) remind me of the books I read as a kid, with toadstool fairy houses.

Butting in here – whilst the Fly Agarics are poisonous they are not as deadly as their closely related cousins Amanita verna and Amanita virosa, known as The Spring Destroying Angel or Fool’s Mushroom and the Destroying Angel respectively – these can kill if you lick your fingers after touching them. However in the same family is also Amanita caesarea which is apparently really good to eat … if you dare!! (although this one does not grow in Britain)
