Getting Organised As Lockdown Lifts

*Advertorial Feature*

If you have followed my lockdown journey so far you will know that it has been full of highs and lows and it has been painful trying to work and have the kids at home. Unmotivated, frustrated and scared, but this week with non essential shops now opening I am finally feeling like our new normal is beginning.

My other employment role as a nail and beauty technician is hopefully going to start back on the 4th July. Now meaning I am having to balance booking in appointments for that and having both boys at home. So I am becoming increasingly eager to get those household jobs sorted and organised to make life easier for July.

Clearing The Clutter

During lockdown we have been cleaning out the clutter and the shed was first on the list for clearing out. Followed by organising the household shelves but I need to be honest and say that I have totally avoided some of my normal weekly tasks like ironing. After all I haven’t had to wear anything other then PJ’s for most of the last 12 weeks!

Instead of the normal daily and weekly jobs Ollie and I have really gone to town on tasks we had previously put off like clearing the clutter from the attic of rubbish and saved stuff we would never get round to using. I think that was in part down to a major roof leak mid lockdown that meant a chimney repair and flashing replaced and re fixed to stop the tsunami running down the chimney stack inside and straight into my bedroom ceiling.

We filled garden skip bags several times over and have got round to garden maintenance and it’s been a great tick box exercise. I guess it has meant we haven’t had to sole focus on the lockdown itself.

Back To Basics

However this week I have been tackling all the basics and finally can see the bottom of my families dirty washing baskets and have been line drying where possible … after all washing always smells better after its been on the washing line doesn’t it!

So with ironing by the ton ready and waiting I am taking out the ironing boards each night and watching films while getting it done. It’s been quite a therapeutic process clearing away, sorting and ticking off the jobs. Make sure you have good ironing board to make it more enjoyable.

Thursday is all about tackling the airing cupboard and reorganising and clearing out stuff we no longer use. I am finding a massive amount of clarity with the clear out and it’s almost feeling like a new start to our new way of life.

Routine

Since the beginning of lockdown the whole family have been out of whack with our routine. This week I am taking back control. Control of the ironing, control of the clutter and control of our lives! Tea times will be an organised affair and household jobs will now from this point on forward be kept on top of.

How has your family coped with lockdown life?
