We’re Going On A Squirrel Hunt

A few months back my husband and son went on a walk and when they came home Joshua was excited to tell me they had seen some squirrels running up and down the trees in the wood, however I have to say Joshua’s excitement was far outweighed by his Dads who regaled the story with a smile on his face and an insistence we need to go and look for more.

Well time passed, work was busy, Christmas arrived and the squirrels were put to the back of our minds … till last week. Once the snow melted we felt regardless of the cold we need to escape the confines of the house and blow away some cobwebs … so we set off an adventure!

However with no squirrels in sight we set off home … where in fact I rushed off to Google about hibernation, if only to save face that they don’t all hibernate (which they don’t according to a local Nottinghamshire Wildlife website) so if nothing else at lease we didn’t wonder round looking for something that was not going to be there.

I think this trip although minus the anticipated squirrels was an adventure in its own right, with muddy bogs, mud skating on paths and even getting to throw sticks into a river and watch them float.

I did have to convince Ollie that maybe pulling up a plant in the farmer’s field wasn’t a good idea … but I suppose you can’t have everything … although we still wonder what it was growing in that frozen field.

Now cobwebs are well and truly blown away and since this year we will be taking the time to discover more of our local area I think this will only be the start of  something more outdoorsy …  and maybe there will a squirrel and a cow?!
