We were fantastically lucky last half term to attend a Nutmeg clothing event in London.
Things got even better for me when I realised for the first time ever my husband could not only come to the event with us but also that he was going to be able to see Jacobs first adventure on a train.
After days and days of glorious sunshine we were really looking forward to London and seeing some sights while we were there.
On the morning of the trip … it had forecast rain
We navigated the train and found our seats, mercifully both boys behaviour impeccably with Joshua doing some colouring in and Jacob cooing quietly much to many passengers relief I have no doubt.
On arriving at Kings Cross it was incredibly obvious that there would be no sunshine today… the rain was pounding down.
We attempted the underground to get to the venue and had some issues with unhelpful advice from some underground staff re stops with lifts and after having go back one stop to find an exit that we could get a pushchair in a lift we headed outside … into the rain.
I don’t think it would be over dramatising the fact it was like the middle of winter out there with dark clouds and rain puddles ankle-deep.
On getting to the event it would be fair to say we were like drown rats with all off us soaked to the skin but thankfully while we were there the rain stopped … the sun may not have shown its face but the fact the rain stopped meant we could finally take in a few sights even if it wouldn’t be all of the ones we planned!
First off was Trafalgar Square to have a date with some lions!
Followed by a route march down the Mall to catch sight of the flags that line the road towards Buckingham Palace.
It was so lovely to walk down the Mall and see the flags blowing in the breeze all the while getting excited to see Buckingham Palace, I had never ever seen it so was really exciting to see it in its splendour .. Although the wetness and grey clouds certainly took some of the shine off.
However it was amazing to see in real life.
Next we travelled down the Birdcage and along side St James Park.
Until we discovered Squirrels and by Squirrels I mean supersonic friendly ones that think nothing of taking things out of your hands!
A lovely couple gave Joshua a piece of biscuit to give to them however this cheeky fella nicked it quickly then scampered away much to Joshua’s disgust.
Next was a walk past Big Ben while heading back past Trafalgar Square for the obligatory selfie – even a bad one as we panicked that the rain is about to start again!
We then headed back to Kings Cross for some tea in Burger King and then jumped back on our train home.
All in all it wasn’t exactly what we had planned but at least we did get some family time in the Capital and at least some of that was without rain!
Next time we are hoping for sunshine.
