Choosing the right ironmongery could be a walk in the park or a nightmare, depending on how you go about doing it. Picking ironmongery is easy, you say. You just have to pick standard ironmongery, it’s all the same, you say. Maybe you’ve just never looked at ironmongery the way I do and that’s ok. Perhaps you’re the opposite of this and found yourself surrounded by too many options and now don’t know which one to choose.

And I couldn’t agree more! The right ironmongery is the cherry on top of the cake, the perfect finishing touch of any interiors or exterior.
So, how to choose the right ironmongery? There are three essentials things to consider to find the perfect ironmongery for your home.
Budget
Probably the most important step is to set your budget. As Love Renovate says, “This can be one of the most daunting parts, but it’s so important to get an idea of the cost of your project and also make sure you stick to it along the way.”
If you can, give yourself a budget with a little wiggle room, so if you really love a pair of matte black door handles that go a couple of pounds over budget, you can still get them – treat yourself! After all, you’re going to be using door handles every day, and if you don’t get those ones you adore, every time you use the alternative, you will think about those stunning matte black door handles.
Function
What type of ironmongery do you need? Where is it going to be installed? Who is going to use it? These are all questions that Ironmongery Experts recommends asking yourself to figure out the right fit for your home. I don’t think you need to choose function over form or form over function, there are plenty of ironmongery products that boast both a beautiful and practical design.
Do you need door handles? If so, are these for passage doors, main doors or cupboard doors? Plus, are these going to be used by elderly people or children? If so, maybe it’s best to choose lever handles instead of doorknobs as knobs offer less grip than lever handles.
Design
My favourite part! Do you want your ironmongery products to match your current design or to make it stand out? Now, it’s the right time to figure out what design and finish you want for your ironmongery products. If you can’t seem to agree on which finish to have, why not mix and match a couple of finishes?
