How to Figure Out What You Want to Do in Retirement

How to Figure Out What You Want to Do in Retirement The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseDo you know what you want to do in retirement? Many people spend so much of their time and energy focused on the present that they do not think ahead to retirement. This should be a special time in your life when you can live life as you please, but you need to think about what this might look like so that you can plan ahead. Read on for a few tips on how to decide what you want to do in retirement and what you can do to make this a reality.

What Makes Me Happy?

A good starting point is to ask yourself “what makes me happy”. Retirement should be a time for happiness and joy, so you will want to identify the kind of activities and things that bring you the most joy in life. For some people, this will involve travelling around the world, while for others it is simply spending quality time with family.

If Money Wasn’t an Issue…

Obviously, money is a major factor when it comes to retirement. You need to consider what you would do if money was not an issue as this could reveal the kind of retirement that you desire. Additionally, you might be surprised at how much you can release with an equity release mortgage that could fund some amazing things.

What Makes Me Excited to Wake Up Each Morning?

You should also think about what makes you excited to wake up each morning. During your working career, it can feel like a slog at times getting up early for work, but people often have a motivating factor that helps. Think about what this is as it could be a clear sign of what you should do with your days in retirement.

Who Can I Spend Time With?

The people that you spend time with must also be considered. If you want to spend more time with friends and family then you are more likely going to stay put, but some people will want to have adventures with their partner or perhaps make new friends in retirement.

There may also be things that you have always wanted to do but have not had a chance to do during your working career. A career can be limited, but in retirement, you can do anything that you want so you may be able to tick off a few things from your bucket list.

Hopefully, this post will help you to identify what you want to do with your time in retirement. This should be a special time in your life, but you need to think ahead and plan what your retirement might look like so that you can then formulate a plan and get your finances in order to achieve these goals.
