How to Plan A Joint Family Holiday The Oliver\\\'s Madhouse

For the last 2 years we have had the pleasure of planning a couple of long weekend camping getaways with our friends. Although they were normally camping based we have had the most amazing time, and so are considering making other travel plans with friends now too so have been looking into how to plan a joint family holiday and here are a few ideas:

Who to Go With

The most important decision to make if planning this type of holiday is who the other family should be.

Whether this is extended family or another family that you are friends with, it needs to be a group that you feel happy and comfortable with as you will be spending a lot of time with them.

While you can certainly spend time apart and it is important to find activities to enjoy with your own family, you will still be spending most of the holiday with others. So choose carefully and as families decide how time will be spent together or apart before the holiday.

Planning Advice

Much like any holiday, there will be a lot of planning that goes into a successful trip. You will need to think about where would be somewhere that has something for everyone. And decide whether you all want to stay in the same place, such as a large villa, or get separate accommodation.

Accommodation is particularly important with this type of holiday as you will be spending a lot of time there. It is possible to find large villas for big groups which will allow you all to feel at home, provide everything that you need and still have privacy. Places like Villa Plus will be a good place to find suitable accommodation, especially if you are looking online for places to stay.

You should then make your travel plans that the whole group can do together. Along with finding activities that you can do separately. Giving you the time to spend apart and enjoy your own family’s company. It is a good idea to plan accommodation, travel and food ahead. This will give you some organisation structure to the holiday.

How to Plan A Joint Family Holiday The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseDo’s and Don’ts

As a unique type of holiday, here are a few do’s and don’ts to ensure for a good trip:

  • Do make plans for the whole group to enjoy
  • Do make separate plans with just your family
  • Do work together to share responsibilities
  • Don’t be rude or talk about controversial topics
  • Don’t force yourself to spend time with people if you do not want to
  • Do work together to create a suitable budget beforehand

When planned well, a joint family holiday now matter where you go can be a unique, fun and memorable way to enjoy a holiday. It can create many happy memories with more than just your own family but with friends too.
