With little motivation and some catastrophic culinary cock ups in the wake of my cooking journey, when I was recently invited to an Event to learn how to create and serve recipes in glass … they had my interest antennae wagging in the hopes they could rescue my flailing failings!
My problem with food of recent years has been the fact my husband is very unadventurous and is quite restrictive, nothing white, no mushrooms, no onions, no creamy sauces, no cheese … and there seems to be more and more each day.
So first off it was to find out about Friends of Glass, since they are the ones supporting this event! Friends of Glass is a consumer forum that promotes and supports the rights of consumers to be able to pick and choose food and drink products in glass packaging. It believes in glass being a clear choice for health and the environment…. along with also getting rather excited at Cherry Healey being there too!
So with some information onboard I soon found myself on board the train and off to see if not only I could make pretty food in glass .. but also more importantly on a personal level if I could fall in love with food again.
Right about here I need to give an enormous thank you to the Clare for Emmy’s Mummy and Harry’s too for rescuing me from Kings Cross station and for making sure I even got to the event!
Once there I was blown away by what an amazing venue Cactus Kitchens is the same place that Saturday Kitchen filming takes place!!
We made an autumn trifle with poached pears and even made an amazing wild mushroom, spinach and butternut jar pie! …. I have to say that making these both from scratch was beyond therapeutic for me, being able to reconnect with my feelings in the fun of seeing the not only tasty outcome but also it looked beautiful too!
I had never ever really thought about glass in itself, I was part of the plastic fantastic food container group … although having seen just how exciting experimenting with glass can be … watch this space as I feel a new recipe idea brewing …. in a kilner jar of course!
Thank you Friends Of Glass for having me and for opening my eyes to what I can do to not only create something fantastic but also by choosing glass to do it with!
