So a few weeks ago I was involved with a twitter party with the lovely people at British Turkey and some bloggers about the benefits of cooking with Turkey.
While on my weight loss journey I have been constantly looking at making a concerted effort to actually work on some new recipes however after my batch cooking cock up I have become incredibly nervous cooking at all now.
So after a twitter conversation with the lovely Filipa at Gourmet Mum and Galina at Chez Maximka we decided to give it a go cooking a turkey dish and to blog about it.
Now already being a nervous cook and with my obsession for meat gloves/freezer bags I was really feeling the pressure but could this Jaime Oliver pull the rabbit out of the hat or should I say turkey out of the oven?
After seeing the recipes and results from Filipa and the recipe and results from Galina I was in full panic mode! What would I cook?? ………..
So I went with parts of other recipes that I had liked and made my own …. obviously named Jaime Oliver’s Turkey Surprise .. the surprise is you can make it up as you go along and add the veg that you and you’re family will like and also try to also use Red Tractor ingredients where ever we can, to ensure we support farmers in the UK and also so we know our ingredients are produced by responsible production standards.
So here goes …
Feeds:
- 4-5 People
Ingredients:
- 573g Turkey Breast (Red Tractor Assured)
- 65g Chorizo Sausage (I used slices as they were out of sausage so it works with either)
- 1 Large onion (Red Tractor Assured)
- 3 Peppers (Red Tractor Assured)
- I can of sweetcorn
- 500g Passata
- Pinch of Oregano
So after all that hard work did I cock up??
It seems not and it was in fact a hit! With no whiffs of burning either! …… who know’s maybe I can cook after all?

Looks lovely 🙂 we are all guilty of burning the odd meal:) I know I have!
mine is never just the odd thing lol x
You could be in Foodies100 if you wanted to. 😉 A lovely feast of flavours! I think turkey with chorizo totally rocks.
Many thanks for your kind words and mention on the blog!
its my pleasure honey i am sorry it took me so long to get it done!!
I am not sure what foodies100 is *scuttles off to check* xx
The same grading system as Tots, only for food bloggers
i may have to look into that when i am feeling braver! x
That sounds really nice! Love anything with chorizo in it, and turkey is good for you! Will give it a try! 🙂
i do hope you like it! lol we all had clean plates x
Well done, I don’t cook any meat in our house, saying that I don’t cook much at all despite my husband buying me a lovely range cooker about 18 months ago, however my husband is very good at cooking x
i am rubbish!! we have a range cooker .. doesnt help with my appalling cooking though!
Looks such a simple but lovely recipe. I’ll have to try it!
it was lush, we have cooked it several times since and still not burnt it!
It looks good and healthy too.
it is really lovely Erica x
Well done lovely – did you wear your special gloves? Looks like a great recipe to try 🙂
lol i sure did use my meat gloves! lol
well done you!
thanks Afra x
Sounds and looks lovely. I SO need to expand my repertoire of dishes, I’m stuck in a rut so I may just try this xx
i have been the same and this one was so easy and lush!
Sounds lovely. I’m not a turkey fab but maybe it would work with chicken too?
it should do, i am preferring turkey at the moment x
cant beat a meal that has ‘surprise’ in the title!!! most of my meals contain a few !!! it looks nice anyway x
lol someone that cooks just like me!! .. the biggest surprise for me is that i didnt burn it!
this looks lovely xx
thanks Wendy x
With a name like Jaime Oliver it would be madness not to cook wouldn’t it now. Well done – look forward to seeing more meals from you :O)
lol thanks Joy, you gave me the confidence to bite the bullet! xxxxxxxxxxxx
Well done it looks yummy! I’m glad it was a hit too, I usually slave away cooking something new and my lot turn their nose up at it, grrr!
lol i normally dont even get it completed before i have ruined it so this is a first! lol
Yum yum – this looks lovely. I always burn onions and somehow never thought of blending them… mhm maybe because I am too lazy to clean the blender. What’s a girl gotta do? 🙂 x
lol i have to blend as hubby dislikes onions … needless to say he doesn’t even know he eats them! lol
Well done to you. This looks delicious. I too like the blending onions idea as the hubby is a picky eater and spends more time picking ‘bits’ out than he does eating most days! Going to give this a go, I love being adventurous in the kitchen 🙂
lol do share some recipes i need inspiration 🙂
Yummy looks good – well done!
thanks honey xx
That looks ace! I’ve been cooking more with Turkey as my partner has high cholesterol, so I’ll definitely try that.
it so much healthier isnt it we are loving turkey here 🙂
Ooh this sounds lovely! Thanks for sharing xx
my pleasure honey 🙂
that looks like something even I couldn’t ruin! I’d leave out the peppers though and maybe use mushrooms instead 🙂
see i would use mushrooms too! however i cant blend them like i did the onion and thats the only way i could get them in as hubby hates them! lol
That looks lovely, I might have to give it a try.
Glad it turned out well for you. x
it certainly was a phew moment i was terrified i was going to burn it! lol
