During this lockdown I have been discovering a new normal with Joshua and Jacob and since I am no classroom teacher I have been looking at spending time with the kids doing fun things but yet still learning so I was excited to hear more about the new online experience create by BT that teaches the kids the fundamentals of coding and programming.
Code a Cake is the new online experience that is aimed at helping children ages 6-11 to understand the art of coding through simple baking analogy. It forms a great basis for helping to learn about a digital world in a super easy to understand way.
How Does Code a Cake Work
We were sent a fantastic message from Joe Swash who shared his own cake he had baked using Code A Cake and Jacob fell in love with him. Joshua being eager to learn got stuck straight in with coding his own cake!
During the task Joshua put the ingredients into his baking bowl with his robotic arm on screen inspiring him to develop a new love of digital coding by making it fun. Starting from the basics of sequencing, then variables and finally looping their instructions to complete tasks.
Joshua loved the challenge and has spent hours on it this week changing the variables and looping to get a different result. It has been lovely to watch him learn without pressure and do it all because it is fun!
The launch of Code a Cake forms part of BT’s Skills for Tomorrow initiative which aims to empower 10 million people by giving them the skills they need to flourish in the digital world. This major new programme is completely free and designed to help everyone – from school children and teachers, to parents, businesses, jobseekers, and anyone who needs guidance getting online – to make the most of the internet.
Oh and while on lockdown .. there is nothing like having a crack at some real life baking to keep their strength up to learn new, fun and interactive things either!
Think your kids have what it takes to become digital coding masters? It is available here: Code a Cake
