Our Family Bonfire Night 2018

A couple of weeks ago I shared with you our possible plans for a family friendly Bonfire night at home that didn’t involve paying hundreds for fireworks (HERE) 

Thankfully we kind of stuck to the plan but did pay for a couple of packs of sparklers for the boys. 

The hardest part about doing something at home is organising the kids to be outside all at once! 

Just before it got dark I lit a fire in the chiminea and set up the guinea pig run round it to mark a clear no go for the kids. Although we made sure at least one of us was out there with them at any one time.

We took some hotdogs outside and had some traditional bonfire night food, which the boys thought was great to eat outside in the dark. Although Jacob has his reservations on being outside in the dark! 

The boys loved the sparklers and Joshua was fabulous with his, Jacob however had to be told every few seconds to calm it down as he was rather energetic with his sparklers! 

The whole family enjoyed the smores dip that I made for the first time. Although the boys ditched the biscuits after a while and decided that spoons were the order of the day instead but then with spoons we were all beaten and couldn’t finish it! 

We watched fireworks from other peoples garden parties and petted our guinea pigs to keep them from being scared with all the loud banging noise. 

Ollie and I got a pink gin and lemonade and watched to kids have fun in the garden in the dark and it was priceless. I am so very pleased we didn’t spend a fortune on fireworks or entry to a big display. We all had such a really lovely time and at practically no cost whatsoever ever. Which goes to prove that we don’t have to spend a fortune to have family time or enjoy a night together. 

Next year I am going to be doing the same again, who needs to wait in a car park for an hour to be able to get out. who needs £4 a hotdog or who needs to spend all night trying to keep your kids from being squashed by the masses … Not the Olivers!
