With our planned pulling in of purse strings for next year effectively cancelling all paid plans next half term travels are out the window and so this half term holiday we were going to have to make the most of the week.
This half term we stayed at Thornwick Bay, a Haven Holidays site on the Yorkshire coast. Last year we stayed there too but with a water issue forcing us to lose so much of our week we decided to head back this year and really get to see what the site offered.
Many of the Haven sites we have visited in the past are too big and busy for us but Thornwick Bay is just the right size with its wonderful pool, play parks and the ability to stay in a chalet instead of a caravan it makes a day by the beach even nicer with blustery autumnal weather and then home for some fish and chips in the warm chalet with JP’s and warm drinks.
Last week was the first October half term that actually gave us some bad weather so we did plan in a day at Filey but opted for buying a picnic at Cooplands bakery and then taking it back home to eat inside after the rain refused to slow down.
Whitby is the place that Ollie and I chose to elope with the kids and marry back in 2012 and so it holds a very special place in our hearts and after not visiting at all this year we hoped the weather would hold.
On the only day that remained warmish and dry we were lucky to have planned in our Whitby day trip .. Although when we set off I wasn’t convinced we had issues as it threw it down for the first 45 minutes of the journey there from Thornwick Bay.
Thankfully after the hour drive we arrived in Whitby to sunshine.
Before heading to whitby we have a list of things we all want to do and our list includes:
Hadley’s for fish and chips
Visit Tog 24 shop – we always visit and buy something
Walk the cobbles back streets exploring the shops
Eat ice creams overlooking the sea
Walk and play on the beach
Buy fudge to take home
I am pleased we managed to do all the things on our lists!
Who needs glorious sunshine when you can get fresh air and ice creams anyway!
We had a wonderful week away and I am so pleased we gave Thornwick Bay a chance and went back!
What did you get up to on your half term?
