Many of my regular readers will know already that my Hubs (Ollie) works day shifts but doesn’t always have the same days off work every week so that can mean during the days the kids are at nursery and or school, he can have a day off.
In an attempt to make more of the days he has off and also for us as a couple, if he is off then we plan at least one thing to make the most of the time.
Last week we found ourselves with a child free day and after saying for months we should go back to Matlock we headed off after the children had gone to school/nursery.
We adore Matlock but we have never been this early in the year and I have to say it was too early for Matlock Bath …. It was deserted at 10am in the morning .. so we decided instead of wasting the trip we should go somewhere else and Bakewell was on the list we have been concocting for months so we headed off…
Having been there last 15 years ago I have to say once there I couldn’t remember a thing about it so it really was a nice surprise and it was like visiting it for the first time all over again! We managed to park easily and there were some really friendly folk .. and not just the human kind.
I adored the bridge which held masses of ‘Love Lock’s which for anyone new to them, they are padlocks with lovers names marked on them that are locked and then the keys thrown in the river…. Although it must not be quite so romantic to locals it was nice to see for the first time for us…. Although no padlock here.
Bakewell has some really beautiful boutique shops along with some more standard shops, and it was so nice to get some proper time to explore … oh and eat some fish and chips!
Oh and also to buy some of Bakewell’s finest pasties and pies before heading back to the car and for Hubs to shy away from a very happy new friend!
After reading all about other things to do in Buxton and Bakewell I know there are going to be plenty more things to do either on our own or with the kids!

We love Bakewell, it’s such a lovely town and we had our baby moon there before my son was born. Such a pretty place and obviously they serve Bakewell pudding which is just divine. #magicmoments

What a lovely and impromptu day out with the hubby, take your time off where you can. Bakewell looks lovely and isn’t terribly far from me, will have to try it – I especially love the love locks on the bridge – what a lovely idea!

Nice to get some child free time and check out somewhere different. We saw a locks bridge when we went to Bristol and didn’t know what it was about until afterwards when I looked online. Have to say the Bristol one was a bit spread out and lacking, but still gave a nice feeling to see it.

I think it’s really important to try and get some child free time now and then that doesn’t involve housework! The Love Locks are awesome.

The Padlocks look fascinating, it must be lovely to see them and hear of their meaning. Sounds like a perfect child free day, great to make this time together and I know it is hard to do.
