Planning The 40th Birthday

Planning The 40th Birthday The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseI am not the biggest of birthday fans.

In fact I would say that I am more of a birthday avoider. I have no real reason why but when it comes to birthday I just hate the organising. You see I am the organiser in our house but there is nothing worse than organising something for yourself.

I love organising others birthday celebrations but never my own.

Turning 40

This year I turn 40 and if I am honest I am reasonably excited. This is obviously a new feeling regarding birthday for me. However I have decided that instead of avoiding this big birthday I am going to take it by the hand and celebrate it with style.

I had always dreaded hitting my 4th decade but with so many past big birthdays not allowing me to celebrate I have decide since I have not choice but to turn 40 then I am blooming well going to do it with a smile on my face.

Planning What To Do

Originally I had been toying with the idea of doing a Butlins 80’s/90’s weekend but it was coming in budget wise for around £450 for both Ollie and I (however that did include food) But Ollie doesn’t do cheese often and certainly doesn’t do it well, think Dad dancing and inane smiling and you just about have a good picture of how that pans out.

Planning The 40th Birthday The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseCity Breaks

Ollie and I had fairly quickly after getting together and with our eldest son nearly 8. Ollie and I have had no real breaks away without the kids. In fact Ollie and I since Jacobs birth have only had one night away from them both and that was a giant fail (you can read about that HERE)

We had presumed that jumping on a plane was going to out of our budget this year but after some online searching we can get a perfect break away for 3 nights in Rome. The country both Ollie and I love and get to explore without the kids and including flights for us both it will cost so much less than Butlins!

Don’t get me wrong I adore Butlins but I would rather take the kids there and Ollie and I head off on a city break adventure.

Starting To Plan

So with my in laws on holidays we aren’t able to book anything yet as they kindly said they would take the kids for us while we were away and we need to make sure they have the free time to take them. I am open to going at any time in the year too which is going to help massively with the price.

However this hasn’t stopped the planning. I am beginning to make a list of all the places I wasn’t to visit in Rome and I have obviously got to plan in an evening out with the girls having drink in town! … *cough cough* maybe even a quick spa?

OK, maybe I will just stick to Rome and think myself immensely lucky if we manage to go.

What ideas do you have for adult birthdays?
