Pregnancy & Birth Story – Bethany

Pregnancy & Birth Story - Bethany The Oliver\\\'s Madhouse

After delving in to the depths of the loft this weekend I dragged some of Beth’s baby photos.

I found out I was expecting Bethany at the age of 20! I had only been in a relationship with her dad for about 3 months…. Although I was young I believed I was ready …. is anyone???

Throughout my pregnancy I had no issues other than the dreaded morning sickness which lasted for nearly 6 months and looking back now I was the size of a house!

So as the 10th March and due date approached I was really excited .. however when the 13th, 14th and 15th passed by I was starting to get fed up. By the 23rd March I was sent in to hospital to see the consultant to have a sweep and while I was there they booked me in for an induction on Tuesday 27th March.

An hour after leaving the hospital I knew something was happening as I was getting tightening and felt quite nauseous. So after a fitful night that Friday night I expected things to progress, oh how wrong I could be! for the entire weekend I was in agony for an hour or 2 than it stopped for an hour. It was enough to drive me insane.

Pregnancy & Birth Story - Bethany The Oliver\\\'s Madhouse

Monday morning I was exhausted and cranky and fed up! after getting up for a wee for the 4 forth time since midnight I was beyond peeved. After weeing for the 5th time I dropped into bed and got my sheet tangled and in temper I went to pull it up when I heard a ‘pop’ and then waters everywhere! … Beth’s dad jumping out of bed was highly amusing .. it still makes me giggle!

I waddled to the toilet with the sheet and asked Beth’s dad to run me a bath so I could clean up. After running me the bath he then proceeded to jump in it! … I believe at that point I was not holding back on the expletives with language so colourful I can honestly say I have never uttered such foulness from my mouth since.

After my bath .. eventually we went of to hospital and I progressed quickly, by lunch time I was well on my way to being fully dilated however by mid afternoon there had been no further progress and I was so shattered and they allowed me the epidural and said that it maybe best to have it.. knowing what I know now I should of known they thought trouble was ahead!

At 7 pm they were monitoring her blood oxygen level and cut her head to get and accurate measurement. At just after 8 I was told a section was the only option and I cried more with relief that there was an end in sight than anything else, I don’t think I actually took the severity on board.

At 9.25 pm Bethany was born weighing in at 9 lbs 8 ozs and I became a Mummy for the first time. It was a whole 3 1/2 days I will never ever forget!

Exhausting but so worth it at the end!
My 19 year old was ten days late and took a couple of days to appear, that was a long spell in a room in the hospital.
T was bang on his due date, born in our old house. Labour a few hours.
D was 6 days early, born in our new house – almost on the floor, but that’s another story!
All very difficult but mind-blowingly awful
Sciatica in my legs for all three, which no pain relief would take away.
    Lovely pictures j xx

Congratulations for back then! We had something similar with Austin – a very long labour then a c-section. It’s so exhausting – and then you have to look after a new baby at the end of it. Madness!

I love birth stories. The seriousness of the emergency section didn’t really register with me either. It wasn’t until the next day that I got my head around it.
I love your pictures Jaime, especially the one of you both in bed looking at each others x

Phew-sounds exhausting! When I’m in labour I’m usually all ‘why the heck did I agree to this’ and then minute I’m holding that baby, I’m all ‘that was fab! let’s do that again soon’. Haha.
Holding your newborn is always the most magical moment-thanks for sharing this!

Oh, nothing like a birth story! It is the most incredible journey. I often think that people make so much drama out of the end of our lives, when actually the beginning is so incredibly dramatic, and damn heroic too frankly!

Sounds exhausting. Mine was less stop/start (although there was a bit of that) and took 27 hours which was timed so I missed 2 nights sleep. You do look a very young mum in the pictures, but hopefully that meant that you could cope better with the exhaustion and lack of sleep.
