Reliable Run Around – Reliably Costly

Reliable Run Around - Reliably Costly The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseI hate this time of the year, for some reason September and October are the hardest financially on us being a 2 car family as it seems 50% of our yearly motoring costs all fall smack within the middle of those months with one car having its Car Insurance and road tax due and the other having its MOT and servicing it would be fair to say as the months roll round I tend to cringe at the thought of the out goings.

This September has been more costly than normal as Ollie (hubs) has just had several months off work after spinal surgery on limited pay and 2 trips for his car to the garage for problems it would be fair to say it has left us broken.

We did consider becoming a single car family recently since I work from home, however with a baby on the way and Ollies work being an almost 40 mile round trip now is certainly not the right time for me to relinquish control of my battle waggon and hang up my car keys just yet and not so secretly I am thrilled to have been able to keep it a little longer.

Reliable Run Around - Reliably Costly The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseMy current car has been in the family for 4 years and it has by far been the longest reigning  Jaime battle waggon I have ever owned in my 17+ years of driving, in fact all my previous cars were lucky to last 12 months with many passing through in 6 month durations!

I have to admit that after my recent trial of the BMW i3 the electric car, if we had the funds I would be pushing for us going for a new car and going for one that would be more cost-effective to run… however with that not an option at the moment instead I am going to keep my fingers crossed that by giving my battle waggon a new name with the help of the Co-Operative Insurance car name generator and even a new air freshener I can keep it running a little bit longer.

For now however my car will now be known as …

We have all our cars expenses in October as well – must be a thing for this time of year. I quite like the name Marion for a car I have to admit. x

We are starting to think about replacing our car after 12 years – we’ve had it since new. I’m not sure yet what we’ll go for, but the budget is looking tight.

My kids named our last car April Lulu (don’t ask- it makes the car seem like a showgirl whereas it is a bit more sporty!!) But I feel your pain about needing to keep both wheels even though they are costly! When you have a baby it is a lifeline to have a car to get out and about to play areas and mum and tots groups.

November’s a big one for us too, cars are just crazy expensive to run really. Ours decided to have a ‘check engine light’ moment recently but thankfully turned out to be reasonably minor, I was convinced it was dying!

My car is called Snot Rod! Can you tell that she is green! I have had her nearly five years and love her. The husbeasts car is a LOT older and has nearly 200k miles in the clock – he does around 80 a day, so we are running it into the ground

My daughter named her car George, also known as the ‘Mouldmobile’ as it is a rather fetching shade of green!

I don’t drive (neither does tom funny enough) so cars are a mystery to me! I feel like one of us should learn soon though when we’ll have two kids! x

Ahh the joy of cars! We have everything up for renewal at this time of year too – flipping annoying! The car is getting random lights coming on too which is not great, especially the engine one! Sounds like you definitely need two at the moment so you can both get around. We’d like to do the same although we’ve managed on one for a wee while now x
