Sleeping In The Stars – What It Really Takes To Sleep Well

*Advertorial Feature With TEMPUR*

Sleeping In The Stars - What It Really Takes To Sleep Well The Oliver\\\'s Madhouse

Sleep for me has always been something that has had its peaks and troughs. But what does it really take to sleep well?

I was a sleep avoider as a teen and never liked to lay in bed all weekend. However, now as an adult and a parent to boot, I crave sleep and can’t get enough. I don’t think I had really understood just how important sleep is and why we need it.

Recently TEMPUR the well-known mattress company got in touch with me and I found it fascinating that they had been in the sleep business for 167 years. After all what they don’t know about sleep really isn’t worth knowing is it!

Originally the TEMPUR material was originally designed to cushion astronauts as they took off and landed. So, I have been thinking about the importance of sleep and why I am in need of quality sleep just like an astronaut!

Sleep & Physical Health

Sleep forms an integral part of physical health and just like any astronaut I need to be in peak physical health to tackle my days. Since I haven’t quite ditched my cake and diet coke addiction I need to ensure that every other aspect of keeping myself healthy is a priority.

Prolonged sleep deficiency can cause issues with your body’s immunity and can help you in keeping your appetite and food intake under control. If you miss long periods of sleep you are more likely to have an increased appetite and hunger and this will make you gain weight quickly.

Obviously I am not going to be spending months alone on a space station or space rocket. However the everyday mental pressures of raising a family  and juggling life can sometimes be too much to handle. Balancing so many things can put masses of strain on me mentally. So having poor quality sleep or not enough of it is not an option.

Long term sleep deficiencies can contribute to low mood and even depression and anxiety disorders, so for me getting a good night’s sleep is not a luxury it’s a necessity

Repair & Mend

During sleep our bodies use this time to repair themselves. This is why we sleep when we are ill. During sleep our body very cleverly works at repairing tissues and even our minds to help keep our bodies running and functioning properly. If our bodies are not running properly, we can’t function properly.

Obviously I am not going to navigate over alien terrains. Actually, if you can call the Lego Mountain an alien terrain then maybe I do.

But I do appreciate how important sleep is to me and how it keeps me physically, mentally and emotionally on an even keel. Now to take on the world, the kids, work and life …

Sleep is such a luxury when you become a parent! It’s so important to get as much of it as you can 🙂

Having a good sleep sets you up for the day and I find that it helps me stay alert and more focused during the day and I can really feel it when I’ve had a bad nights sleep x

I’ve always loved sleep and my lie ins but I didn’t know that if you miss long periods sleep you’d increase your food – how fascinating!

I don’t get to sleep much since having had children. Not that I don’t try, I even attempt to go to bed at the same time as them but my son still insists on climbing into my bed half way through the night.

The concept of the mattress being designed for astronauts is really interesting, that statement alone says high quality product xx 🙂

I have always loved sleep but it often alludes me being an insomniac, there are days I get a good 7 hours sleep and I am happy, content and energised but this is rare.

I honestly never feel like I get enough sleep, I always blamed it on the baby but even now she is sleeping through and I am getting a full nights sleep I always feel exhausted anyway!
