A little while ago I mentioned that we were going to start our potty training with Jacob but with time lacking and only a couple of indicators given by him that he was ready we decided to hold off until we knew for that he was defiantly ready.
A month or so back around 7 of his nursery friends started potty training in earnest and within days of noticing his friends using a potty Jacob came home and asked to sit on the potty.
A new for him and something we have also now let him take the lead from.
We have started putting him on the potty after each mealtime and have been trying to watch for indicators that he needs the toilet and for the first 2 weeks it has been going well. He has taken to sitting on the potty with some degree of pride and we have been having great success.
So with success being so good it was time to start our potty training journey in earnest and get him in pants.
Having had 2 children previously go through this phase I know that the best way is to get them in pants as soon as possible and knowing that Jacob can hold or stop his wee it was time to finally get him outside in the garden in some big boy pants.
Having the next few days at home I knew that the first day needed to be fun so I relocated my office into the garden and set up the essentials to potty training with wipes, potty, change mat, clean pants, rubbish bag and a bucket of soapy water for sluicing and soaking and then refreshed on Supernanny’s tips to potty training.
Jacob did remarkably well for the most part of the day and seeing on the potty was down to a fine art, however his number 2’s were not as potty oriented as I would have hoped, in fact none of them made it to the potty. However I know this is the long haul so we will keep going.
So the next week or so should be interesting *cough cough*
How did you children’s potty training stories go?
