The summer holidays are here and with some time off from work around the corner, we are planning our time as a family along with planning in some much-needed downtime together.
During our normal working weeks, we are very separate in our morning routines. Ollie is away before us and eats his cereal and milk on his own in the morning.
Next is me to get up and ready and I don’t eat breakfast, but then it’s time to get the boys up. While the boys were both in primary school both went to a breakfast club and had breakfast there at school so as a family, we don’t do breakfast together till we have time off. In fact, our mornings are so chaotic we have looked to get ourselves more organised with the modern milkman who delivers everything we might need.
So when we do eventually get time together we plan to eat together at as many meals as we can. Breakfast is normally a fantastic affair with lots of options and we love nothing more than a leisurely breakfast.
However, if you have followed my blog for a while you will know that 5 years ago Joshua was diagnosed as fructose and lactose intolerant. Over the last 5 years, his symptoms have ebbed and flowed and it makes planning family meals a little harder due to the planning involved to make sure Joshua’s breakfast is as lactose and fructose-free as possible.
We have this summer been trying out oat milk for Joshua and he is becoming rather fond of what we can actually do using oat milk recipes that make ideal breakfast items and don’t take forever to make.
Originally when Joshua was diagnosed with lactose intolerance I thought it would be super hard to keep everyone happy at meal times but most of our own meals now contain oat milk instead of cow’s milk as it’s so versatile.
This summer we are planning on a pancake competition at breakfast time too! after all, there is nothing like a bit of competition and some lazy summer mornings are the perfect time to do it. Enjoying good food for breakfast and enjoying our time together as a family.
Whatever your plans are this summer. Enjoy time together and catch your breath. Life is hard work and it passes by in the blink of an eye.
