The Best Places To Take The Family On The Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight is a great place to visit with the family. The kids love the ferry ride across and there is plenty of things to see and do.

I am hoping to be able to visit at some point this year. I’ve been looking into Isle of Wight holidays to find the best deals for me and my family.

Now for a little island, there is so much to do. Even when you think you have done it all, there is still something else to discover and explore.

Here are my top places to take the family on the Isle of Wight:

Blackgang Chine

Perhaps the most well-known attraction on the island, Blackgang Chine is known as the Land of Imagination and is the UK’s oldest theme park. There is a reason so many adults go back with their kids after enjoying it when they were kids themselves, it is such a fun experience.

Robin Hill Adventure Park and Gardens

Following on from the choice of Blackgang Chine, consider visiting Robin Hill as it is owned by the same people as Blackgang Chine. It is probably better for slightly older children, but the whole family will enjoy it nonetheless.

There is plenty of beautiful woodland to explore, along with lots of rides and playgrounds for the kids to go on or run around.

The Needles

Perhaps not the place to visit if you have a weak stomach – you will find that your children will be desperate to go on the chairlift down to the beach and back up again.

You can hop off at the beach and spend some time down there and jump back on later or simply enjoy the ride down there and back up again.

I use the word enjoy lightly as if you aren’t a fan of heights, I’d probably avoid and let the rest of the family do it by themselves!

Carisbrooke Castle

We love visiting castles, in fact we have a couple on our family bucket list. They are great to explore as a family as there is always plenty to see and do and you can learn something new too. Carisbrooke Castle is an English Heritage property where there are plenty of family friendly activities.

Isle of Wight Steam Railway

My kids love going on trains so this is a great option for your family if your children are the same. You can enjoy a round trip on the train. There is also a discovery centre, a play area and much more.

Any of the beaches

Something Isle of Wight truly has to offer is their beautiful beaches. There are the busier beaches such as Shanklin and Sandown and others which are a little quieter such as Steephill Cove or Whitecliff Bay. There are plenty of amusements at all the beaches. Sandown is great – it has a pier with lots to do.

These are just a few suggestions of places to take the family on the Isle of Wight – and I am sure I have probably missed quite a few obvious ones. Where would you suggest?
