The Great Orme Tramway & Why It’s Worth A Visit When In Wales

The Great Orme Tramway & Why It's Worth A Visit When In Wales The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseThis summer we finally burst our Welsh family holiday bubble.

It has been a long time coming but with all of us thriving on fresh air and camping it seemed like we needed to take a closer look at Wales on our next trip.

We camped a few miles away from Llandudno in North Wales and with only a short drive we headed there on our 3 day in Wales to see not only what Llandudno had to offer but also to visit the Great Orme Tramway.

The tramway was on our must visit lists and after Ollie Mum confirmed it was most certainly worth a trip we decided to follow her advice and make it the first stop of the day.

The Great Orme Tramway

It is Britain’s only cable-hauled public road tramway and has been running since 1902. This stunning Tramway climbs a mile (1500m) high up the Great Orme Country Park and Nature Reserve and after a change of car midway it is said that on a clear day you can see the Isle of Man, Blackpool and beyond.

The price per adult is £8.10, Aged 3-16 is £5.60 and 3 and under is £4.60 all these ticket prices gives you a return trip up and back down. We didn’t think the £26.40 was a bad price to pay for us to go on the tram

Our Trip On The Great Orme Tramway

We timed out trip perfectly and managed to get onto the first tram up and so there was only a few people waiting in front of us.

On the way up you wind around and up the small Welsh streets towards the hills showing some breathtaking views of Llandudno. At the halfway point you have to get off and walk through the tram building with the machinery and you can read all about the Tramway and its workings in a small exhibit located as you walk through.

We boarded the second tram to take us to the top and I have to admit I didn’t travel well as I ended up seated backwards. However, there is no denying that the views are utterly breathtaking from every angle.

At the top there is a fantastic pub/cafe which serves the most delicious sausage rolls and cakes! But fo the boys it was the park that felt like it was on the top of the world!

On a drier warmer day we would have stayed up there longer and fitted in a round of crazy golf or two! (yep thats right there is one of those up there too!)

We are so pleased that we made it part of our day trip to Llandudno. It really was a magnificent way to see such sights and we all loved taking a step back in time and taking the tram to the top.

If you are visiting the area I would really recommend you take a trip and check out those stunning views.
