The Joy of pets has always been something that we have been enjoyed in our family. As children both Ollie and I had pet dogs and I also had the joy of a pet cat too! although the cat was not such a joy when my mum had redecorated her bedroom from top to bottoms and the cat did a war dance round the whole room covering EVERYTHING in oil after falling into a container of oil outside!
As I set out on my adult journey I acquired my own pup called Billy, and then some years later I then acquired Bob .. although telling ones now ex husband he was rescued when in fact I drove to pick him up from the owner’s house and paid hard cash was always going to show my marriage for the sham that it was!
Since then we have had 2 guinea pigs and a hamster called peanut. However since getting together Ollie and I have always had this ongoing discussion regarding getting a dog. Now since all our other pets are no longer with us and the only pets Joshua sees regularly is my Mum and Dads dog called Bobby and my sisters dog called Tiny Ollie is wanting a new dog and I am not wanting one at all.
Don’t get me wrong I love dogs, but selfishly I also like a very tidy house, not being tied to coming back at set times, not having to go out in all-weather because I have to walk a dog everyday and I like the fact that I have beautiful grass not tainted in dog poo remnants!
Ollie has yet to be able to convince me that a dog at this stage in our lives will in fact enrich it, his instance at the fact no dog of his would poo in the garden and it would only poo outside of the house, and that he would be sick if he had to pick up its poo is never going to win me round either.
So for now The Oliver’s are a no pet zone .. and certainly wont be considering a dog .. nice try Ollie!

Lovely post. Pets are a big responsibility and not a decision to be taken lightly! I wouldn’t have a dog either, but I don’t have any pets at all! We used to have rabbits and I would love another one, but I genuinely don’t think I have enough time to look after one properly 🙁 One day we will get one.
we are the same honey i feel slightly guilty as Joshua doesn’t have a pet but i think a dog is way too much responsibility at the moment x
Aww they are gorgeous – I couldn’t have a dog and the kids are trying to talk me into a Guinea Pig!
you are supposed to have guinea pigs in 2’s! lol i would consider getting them again just not a dog lol
I totally understand you… Yet Cute Doggy has been part of our lives for five months now and it was one of our best decisions! 🙂 xx
i think if hubster was more accommodating with walking it and poo duty it may of made me think seriously about it. Your woofer is gorgeous x
I totally understand where you are coming from. I was unsure about getting our dog as my little man, was only 1 but although it was hard work, I’m glad we did.
I do miss having a dog but at the moment there doesn’t seem to be a spare minute and im worried it wouldn’t get the attention it needed x
Well sis you could have s borrow of tiny dog for a week. Either he will prove you right ir ollie right….. 😉

Getting fish was a big step for us! Seriously though, I’m sure we will get a dog at some point in the future but it won’t be a light decision.
im thinking fish is the way forward! lol
We thought about a dog too but, like you, I like a nice, tidy house and no poo to pick up. I also like not being tied down. My cats pretty much look after themselves, I like their independence lol! Your little guinea pigs are very cute!
they were beths from years ago .. i think we might go round the guinea pig route again for Joshua

I really want a dog but we’re waiting as no-one is home quite enough at the moment for me not to feel bad about it.
im the same we spend such large amount of time doing our own thing during the day i would hate to leave one all day xx

Totally get where you’re coming from but our house wouldn’t be the same without Ash but we are really lucky that mum and dad always take Ash for us when we know we’re going out for a long period of time. He has 2 homes in theory and gets spoilt rotton. Mum and Dad are even referred to as Ash’s ‘grandparents’!!!! 😉
thats fantastic to have the second home i think we will know when we are ready for one but i know i am not at the moment lol

Every home sohuld have pets, especially when you have children. We had all sorts of weird and wonderful pets growing up. We had dogs and I do like them, but I’m with you – poo and too much of a tie!

You’re right that dogs are a real tie. We love our little dog Luna but our dog walking arrangements are just as complicated and as expensive as childcare!
what a nightmare, i think thats the part my hubby thinks it would walk itself x (Luna is a lovely name)
