The Pre Christmas House Sort & Repaint

The Pre Christmas House Sort & Repaint The Oliver\\\'s MadhouseI have lived in this house for nearly 9 whole years.

It was my safe space after fleeing domestic violence and it soon became a real home. One with warmth, laughter, normal fallings out and it was were I brought both my baby boys home to from the hospital after finding love and starting my life again.

There has been a massive amount of joy in this house and some years an equal amount of tears. However it has worn our family well but this year with so much work on my plate and the prospect of yet more I have been craving completion.

Completion of all the jobs I have started and never finished and of Ollie and I buying our own house together that we choose together instead of him having no choice over this one and accepting it as it was my safe space.

With so much change in the new year for us I have been desperate to get the little unfinished jobs done. To finally sort the kitchen ceiling where the shower drain broke and soaked through the ceiling.

I have wanted to finish the painting and decorating in the hall stairs and landing that I began when we had the new boiler installed at the beginning of the year and once again never got finished.

It probably sounds slightly insane that I want to focus on these titivating jobs before Christmas but I honestly can’t bare looking at half finished things anymore. I feel like January and 2019 needs to start with everything possible completed so I took a week off from my social media channels, from my blog and from anything that I could leave for a week and set about ticking my half job to do list and it has been quite cathartic.

I have finally finished the hall, stairs and landing and rehung the curtains from the bottom of the stairs that have been waiting to go back up since March.

I have shown the giant brown water stain on my kitchen ceiling the door and I have  made a start on the kitchen redecoration with picking the new colours and have started painting. If I am honest I have no real idea why I have made it my ambition on decorating the kitchen but its been stuck in my head since the water leak happened and I don’t like to think of my home looking anything other than its best.

Last week I have also declutter to the max. I have bottomed my office, my wardrobe and the next declutter will be the kitchen cupboards. I feel like now is the time to let go of anything that has not been used in the last 6-12 months as the likelihood is we will never miss having it.

This week the declutter and final bits of painting are on hold as the D&V bug have hit our home but I am determined to finally get finished and complete those niggly jobs I have been putting off.

Do you declutter and complete all those odd jobs before Christmas or is it just me?
