I wouldn’t call myself a design expert, but lately, I’ve been finding myself completely drawn into the world of bathroom renovations! Work has been crazy and l have been craving to find moments of relaxation only to realise my bathroom could be so much more than a place to shower. It could be a personal spa, a heaven of calm amidst choice. That’s when I started researching bathroom trends and guess what? The 2024 trends are all about creating a bathroom that feels luxurious and serene.
Here are the bathroom trends 2024 I found more interesting and easier to incorporate.
Bring the Outdoors In
More and more homeowners want to create a space that fosters a connection with the outdoors. Therefore, there is a surge in the use of natural elements like wood, stone, and live plants in the bathroom. Experts recommend anyone who loves nature should experiment with different wood tones ( both light woods like oak or bamboo and darker woods like walnut or mahogany) to create a spa-like ambiance. Live plants are also a popular option to incorporate nature’s touch into the space while purifying the air, and making the space even more relaxing retreat.
I swapped out my old shower curtain for a sleek glass enclosure, revealing the beautiful stone tiles I’d almost forgotten about. Then, I added a few potted ferns on the windowsill. The natural light filtering through the leaves, combined with the earthy tones of the stone, instantly created a more calming atmosphere.
Colours Inspired by Nature
Bathroom trends for 2024 are all about creating an ambience that is closer to nature. That’s why interior design experts recommend earthy tones like rich brown, burnt orange, and muted greens to help create a calming and serene atmosphere.
These colours are surprisingly versatile to complement any bathroom decor style and can be matched with natural materials like wood and stone to create a coordinated look.
Experts recommend experimenting with different shades and textures to find the perfect fit for your bathroom.
In my bathroom, the stark white walls looked boring, so I picked the soft, muted green paint job. The result was amazing as it almost instantly felt like stepping into a tranquil forest. On top of that it paired beautifully with my satin green vanity unit and white worktop.
It’s like stepping into a tranquil forest, and it pairs beautifully with the natural textures of the stone and wood vanity.
Spa-Inspired Design
Post covid-19 focus on health and well-being has led everyone to crave a place to unwind and de-stress. That’s why spa-inspired bathrooms remain a top priority in 2024. Interior design experts recommend incorporating the elements that bring a sense of luxury and relaxation. bring
Bathtubs may offer the ultimate spa-like experience offering pure bliss after a long day out of home. You may install a shower bath to enjoy both a shower and bath depending on your requirements.
Opt for a rainfall shower head on the other side of an L or P shaped bath to create a truly immersive shower experience. On top of that, you can install heated towel rails ensuring that you will always have a warm towel waiting for you. in the bathroom
I already had a double ended bath from Royal Bathrooms last year, so decided to invest in enhancing the bath experience. What I did was add a luxurious bath mat and some scented candles. The flickering candle lights add a touch of spa-like ambience, while the plush mat makes stepping out of the tub feel like sinking into a cloud.
Clean Lines and Uncluttered Space
Your bathroom should be uncluttered to exude a sense of calm. That is why interior design experts favour clean lines, uncluttered surfaces, and concealed storage solutions to create a serene ambience.
Opt for the vanities that fit on the wall with drawers instead of open shelving to create a streamlined look. A complete bathroom suite with a vanity unit or combination vanity units and mirrored cabinets are other options to maximise the space and minimise the clutter.View on Royal Bathrooms to explore more about these minimalist bathroom fixtures. Wall-hung toilets can further enhance the sense of spaciousness even in the small bathroom.
I decided to replace my floor standing vanity with a wall hung double sink vanity unit to bring style and a spacious feel to the space. The new LED bathroom mirror just above the vanity looked amazing.
Additionally, I declutched my vanity unit by transferring everyday essentials to stylish storage boxes tucked beneath the sink. This cleared up the counter space making the entire bathroom look in order.
Unexpected Accents and Bold Patterns
While minimalism is the ultimate choice for modern bathrooms, there is still room for a touch of personality in your bathroom. A bold statement pendant light fixture or a piece of artwork can add visual interest while a patterned rug or a pop of colour on the walls can inject some personality. However, it is crucial to keep the overall look balanced without overwhelming the space.
To avoid my place feeling sterile, I installed a brushed brass pendant light fixture above the mirror. It perfectly matched the frame of the bathroom, creating a bold style statement in the bathroom.
Smart Touches
Technology brings convenience. Bathroom Trends 2024 shows an increased interest in incorporating the technology. There are a variety of smart fixtures that experts recommend. Smart mirrors with built-in lighting ( with the added feature of displaying weather and news) can add a touch of modernity to the bathroom.
Additionally, smart toilets with heated seats, automatic flushing, and bidet functionality are also making their way to our homes. And not to forget a smart shower head that allows a full control over water temperature and pressure offering a perfect shower experience.
Let’s be honest, I did not have a budget for smart fixtures, but believe me even little things can make the biggest difference. I installed a dimmer switch for an overhead light with a voice-activated function to enhance my convenience while taking a bath. It was affordable and a start to bringing technology into my bathroom.
Clever Storage Solutions
Your spa-like bathroom is incomplete without functional storage. Our research on bathroom trends in 2024 shows that clever storage solutions that maximise the space will continue to be in demand. There are endless ways to incorporate storage with minimal impact on the available space. For example, you can utilise the under the sink space to store bathroom essentials. Prefer pull-out drawers or organisers to create a coordinated look.
I had a storage unit just above the toilet for bathroom essentials. It was bulky, and unattractive making the space look occupied. After carefully considering the available space, I decided to replace it with a bathroom suite with a tallboy cabinet from Royal Bathrooms that maximises the vertical space without feeling cramped.. It looks stylish, provides ample storage and makes the bathroom feel more spacious and serene.
Ambient Lighting
The trend of harsh overhead lighting is over. Interior design experts favour the maximum use of natural light where possible. A layered approach can set the mood and enhance the functionality of your bathroom.
You can start with warm, ambient lighting that creates a relaxing and serene ambience. Prefer dimmer switches to have control over brightness for the different activities. Many LED lights up the space in addition to reflection.
These types of bathroom mirrors also provide different levels of brightness allowing you to use it according to your requirements. Alternatively ( if the LED mirror is not an option for you) you can use task lighting over the vanity unit and scones on either side of the mirror for even light distribution.
I knew the overhead light in my bathroom was quite uninviting. Therefore, I decided to swap it for a warm dimmable LED option. This allowed me to adjust the brightness depending on my activity creating a relaxing and serene atmosphere perfect for a soak or a well-lit environment for getting ready in the morning.
Soft Shapes and Curves
Sharp angles and edges of the fixtures are outdated. They can feel harsh in a space meant for relaxation. That’s why soft shapes and curvy designs are on trend in 2024.
A freestanding bath with round edges or a shower bath in an L or P shape (round interior) can create a more organic look. Additionally, a round counter top sink on a vanity unit with round taps and a round LED bathroom mirror above it can be your choice for an overall sense of serenity
My old vanity with sharp edges felt unfit for the space. Inspired by the trend of softer shapes I decided to replace it with a double sink round vanity unit. Additionally, I added a few plush towels with rounded corners on the towel rack. It’s a subtle change, but it contributes to the overall sense of comfort and tranquillity.
Eco-Friendly Choices
The latest bathroom trends suggest an increasing focus on sustainable bathroom practices. Homeowners want to create spa-like spaces but with minimal impact on the planet. If you want to create a green bathroom then start with incorporating fixtures that can help you reduce water usage.
Consider opting for low flow shower-heads and faucets to conserve water. Prefer dual-flush toilets that use less water per flush. Other options include using counter tops, vanities, and flooring made with natural or sustainable materials.
I believe taking care of the environment is win-win for us all. We can save water to reduce our bills while helping the environment. Being a nature lover, taking care of the environment has always been my priority.
So, I looked for ways to incorporate eco-friendly practices into my bathroom routine. I swapped out my old shower head for a low-flow model to save water. I am also planning to replace my close coupled toilet with one dual flush mechanism to save water further.
Final Thoughts
So, there you have it! I have only shared a few bathroom trends that (according to my research) are important in 2024. The best part about these trends is that they can easily be incorporated into any existing style without going out for complete bathroom renovations. Whether you want a minimalist bathroom, make it more sustainable or bring nature in, there is a way to make these trends work for you.
